Chapter 51: Son Of ?
"Are you a god?" Jason blurted out, unable to contain his curiosity, his words escaping before any other conversation could unfold.
Upon hearing Jason's question, a mesmerizing smile blossomed upon the enigmatic individual's face, radiating warmth and understanding.
"No, my dear child," they responded with a gentle and reassuring tone. "I am but a humble devotee, a follower of the son of cosmos."
"Now, come. We have much to discuss," he said, gesturing Jason to join him. With those words, he returned to his seat atop the boulder, and magically, a chair materialized in front of him.
At this moment, Jason regained his composure, realizing the impropriety of his earlier outburst. He felt a tinge of shame, but without uttering a word, he quietly made his way toward the chair, head bowed, and sat down in silence.
"Now, I understand you have been plagued by numerous questions about my identity and our current whereabouts. Perhaps you have formed some conjectures about me. Allow me to dispel all your doubts and provide clarity."
"However, before we proceed, there is an important matter for you to consider. You must make a choice—a pivotal decision that will determine the course of our interaction. Please understand that everything hinges upon your choice: whether we engage in further conversation or part ways, never to cross paths again."
"What kind of choices do you mean? This situation bears resemblance to the ones Rotarr presented to me," Jason inquired, seeking clarification.
"You could say that the choices presented by Rotarr led you to me, but the choices you make now will shape your future," the individual replied.
"Ah, so you are the person Rotarr often spoke about. Does that mean I have passed his final test?" Jason remarked, his tone casual as the previous pressure subsided, allowing him to think clearly.
"You neither passed nor failed, my dear. Yes, not only do I know him, but I am the very person he mentioned. However, let us postpone discussing these matters until after you have made your decision. It would be meaningless to delve into all that we can discuss if, in the end, you choose a different path and retain no recollection of our conversation."
"Now, let's discuss the choices before you. They are self-explanatory, and I believe you have no trouble understanding them," the individual began.
"Your first option is to become my devoted follower until the end of the cosmos. By choosing this path, you must forsake following any other deity or entity. In return, you will gain unimaginable rewards and face challenges beyond your wildest imagination. Your life will be filled with hardships, and the path ahead will be fraught with obstacles. However, if you persevere, you will ultimately become someone you can be proud of."
"The second option is to enter the Soul Purification Realm, where you will relinquish all your memories, including the gift you possess and your insatiable thirst for knowledge. However, as you have reached this point, I will not let you depart empty-handed. I will grant you three wishes, with the exception of resurrecting someone, retaining your memories, or preserving your thirst for knowledge. You are free to ask for anything else."
"For instance, you may desire to be born on a magically awakened planet, blessed with exceptional talents, or even be born in one of the enchanting worlds depicted in the books and movies you have encountered. Your options are vast, as long as they do not involve the prohibited three."
"Personally, I sincerely hope you choose the first option, as the gift you possess is more significant than you may realize. It has chosen you as its host, making you truly special. Moreover, I do not know how many years it would take for it to find another host. At present, the second option may seem appealing, but believe me, the first option holds far greater benefits than you can imagine."
"To be frank, I also require your choice, as I prefer not to wait many years to find another host for your gift. I present you with this choice because your gift—although it may be perceived as both a curse and a blessing—holds immense importance."
"However, I must caution you that should you select the first option, it will bring forth beings that are as perilous as death itself, if not more so. You will encounter gods and entities more powerful than gods. Thus, only choose the first option if you possess the courage to confront them and refuse to cower in their presence."
"However, I want to emphasize that your decision holds the utmost importance. It is a personal choice that will shape not only your destiny but even mine and all the beings in the cosmos. While I offer guidance and insight, the final determination rests solely with you."
"The responsibility bestowed upon the chosen one is not one that any being can bear. It requires shouldering the fate of the cosmos while maintaining a resolute smile even in the face of its imminent destruction. Are you truly willing to assume such a profound role?"
"Nevertheless, the ultimate decision lies with you. As a follower of one of the sons of the cosmos, it is within my capacity to guide and influence other beings who are evidently less powerful and inferior in many ways, but it was beneath me to influence others in order to align their actions with my intentions."
Upon hearing the options presented, it became evident to Jason that the second choice far surpassed the first in terms of its benefits. He had no doubts about his decision, as the individual's demeanour made it clear that he would not deceive someone of lesser stature.
He didn't even ask anything further or about anything else as it was quite clear to him that all his questions will remain unanswered until he choose one of the paths.
Opting for the second choice meant Jason could be born in any place he desired while retaining two remaining wishes to obtain powerful skills or anything he wished for.
On the other hand, the first option offered no clear understanding of the rewards, demanding his unwavering devotion to someone he had just encountered, until the end of the cosmos, while forbidding him from following any other god or entity.
Although Jason now knows about the existence of other gods or beings even more powerful than them, he remained uncertain whether the person before him was a god or some kind of malevolent entity.
Moreover, he would have to face gods and entities of even greater power. Adding to his reservations, he would bear the weight of the entire cosmos, a responsibility he was ill-equipped to handle, considering he struggled with the fate of a single planet then how come he would handle the fate of cosmos.
Considering all these factors, it became clear to Jason that the second option was the best choice for him.
Not only would he be liberated from the painful memories of his deceased loved ones, but he could also utilize his three wishes to be reborn on a magical planet with incredible powers or talents.
He even contemplated requesting a system power, akin to those depicted in books and movies, that could elevate him to the status of a king or even a god, although he acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the feasibility of such a request.
However, based on the individual's words, it seemed possible.
Why, then, would he relinquish these opportunities and opt for the first option? That would only lead to a life of anguish, hardship, chaos, uncertainty and many more things that he can't think of.
The reason behind Jason's decision was both simple and yet incredibly complex. It revolved around a singular entity that had been the root cause of all his problems in life since its emergence.
However, it was also this very entity that had granted him everything he possessed and had shaped him into the person he had become.
Regardless of whether he was deemed a failure or anything by others, he took immense pride in his true self and had no qualms about expressing it.
The losses he incurred along the way held little significance to him, as the things he truly valued had already perished.
He bore no responsibility for their demise, and if the evidence suggested otherwise, he would seek vengeance on their behalf rather than harbour any regrets regarding his choices.
Moreover, there remained an unfulfilled task that weighed heavily on his heart. It was a duty entrusted to him by his mother, and it involved his father, the two individuals whom he held dear above all else.
No matter which path he chose, he vowed to fulfil this task, as it embodied the only purpose that truly mattered to him.
He can use one of the wishes he got from the second option to do his bidding as other than the three restricted things he can ask for anything but he won't.
Jason decided against using anything related to what he gained from the second option if he choose that, as he had vowed to accomplish his task with his own hands.
Instead, he mustered the courage to pose a question, fully aware that receiving an answer was far from guaranteed.
Surprisingly, the individual addressed his uncertainty even before he voiced his question. It became evident that this enigmatic being possessed extensive knowledge about Jason, possibly even the ability to delve into his thoughts.
"You have the freedom to pursue anything you desire, for who am I to impede anyone's actions? However, what you have in mind is far from simple. The elements at play extend well beyond your current reach," the individual warned.
"I must reiterate, choosing the first path solely for the sake of seeking revenge or fulfilling a specific desire will undoubtedly lead to failure. I am certain that you will never be able to exact your revenge, and you will meet your demise long before such an opportunity arises," the person cautioned, their tone laced with a profound understanding.
"Therefore, take the time to reflect upon your true desires and answer accordingly. There is no need to rush into a decision," the person concluded, emanating wisdom and maintaining unwavering eye contact with Jason.
Meanwhile, his hand delicately caressed the owl perched nearby, creating an atmosphere of serene anticipation.
Contrary to the person's advice, upon hearing the answer, Jason's determination became resolute.
It was as if his decision had been firmly planted in his mind all along, and he had merely sought validation or a semblance of justification for choosing the path he had secretly embraced.
"I, Jason Wilder, son of Ryan and Emma Wilder, hereby declare my unwavering devotion as a follower of the master until the end of the cosmos. I willingly subordinate my own desires to the guidance and teachings of my master," Jason proclaimed, his voice resolute and brimming with loyalty. With conviction in his heart, he knelt before the person, bowing his head in reverence.
In response to Jason's declaration, the person spoke with a hint of recognition in their voice, uttering the unexpected words, "Son of KØD".
These words caught Jason off guard, filling him with bewilderment, and he couldn't help but express his confusion with an audible "Huh."
