Jason's Pov

I thought things were finally settling Marie and I'd finally talked; we'd at last stopped pretending. for a moment it felt like maybe the storm had passed, But there was still one more name that hadn't left my mind.

Selena...

A name like smoke always slipping through my fingers, always lingering in the back of my thoughts. I hadn't found anything concrete, no location, no image, and not even a real lead until today. when Israel called.

There was something in his voice, not the usual confidence; it was tight, off. He sounded like someone who'd just seen something they weren't supposed to.

"What is it?" I had asked.

"We found something," he'd said. "About her." And that was all I needed to hear.

Now I was flying down the highway, my hands clenched around the wheel, pushing the speed limit like it was nothing. The warehouse, our usual meeting spot, felt far away.
