Rumors and Ruins

Selena's POV

The room fell quiet as Jennifer read the text aloud.

"Jason and Stacey, engaged," she said, her voice low but certain.

I didn't flinch.

Didn't blink.

Didn't breathe.

I simply leaned back in my leather chair, eyes locked on the maps in front of me, the city glowing in silent obedience. But inside… something cracked. Not loud. Just enough for me to feel it.

Engaged.

The word echoed like a dull blade dragged across my ribs. Not because I loved him—love was a luxury I hadn't touched in years. But because once, before the blood and betrayal, he looked at me like I was the only thing that made sense in his chaotic world.

And I believed it.

"Say something," Jennifer said quietly. She knew me too well. She knew the silence meant war.
