Chapter 13 - Meeting Him Again

Echo felt her hand become lighter, she glanced down, and Hunter was gone.

"Damn it! Hunter!" Echo called out, looking around. There were so many people that she couldn't spot Hunter.

Echo caught a glimpse of a white tail. She immediately got off the bar stool, and followed it. "Hunter!" she called out. No one seemed to care about her. She followed Hunter to a corridor, where she vanished.

Not knowing what else to do, Echo followed the cub. The corridor was empty, and the music from the club gradually reduced.

"Hunter!" Echo called out in a whisper. 'Where did she go? I need to find her before someone finds us sneaking around. Oh my gosh! Why didn't I keep an eye on Hunter? She should know better than this, she can't just run off in the middle of a mission.'

Seeing Hunter turn into a room, Echo rushed after it. She found herself inside the room, Kaia was glaring at her, and Damon was sitting at a desk, petting Hunter.

Echo sighed in relief. "Hunter! We're leaving! Now!"

Hunter snuggled up next to Damon, who turned his gaze to Echo.

"You shouldn't be here!" Kaia spoke, she glared at Echo, with dark mist surrounding her.

Echo glared back at Kaia. Of course she wasn't supposed to be there. She was supposed to go gather intel without making a scene, and her little familiar had to run off… to a demon.

Kaia scoffed, "Can't speak? Don't worry, when I'm done with you…"

"Enough!" A deep voice commanded. "Kaia, get out!"

"Damon!"

"OUT!" Damon yelled, standing up, his eyes were dark, as he glared at Kaia.

Kaia lowered her head, and glared at Echo as she stepped out.

Damon walked to the door, and shut it, turning to Echo who was just a few steps away from him. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you right now?"

Echo stared at Damon, he was angry. The look he was giving her made her want to run out of the room, but he was blocking the door. She swallowed and tried to fake a smile. "I… You…" she kept stuttering.

Damon closed his eyes, and they turned back to normal when he opened them. "What are you doing here?" He stepped closer to Echo, who took a step back. Seeing what she did, he sighed, and walked around her, sitting back down at the desk.

Hunter laid down on the desk, Damon did not bother to move her aside. He just glanced back at Echo who was staring at him, with an unreadable expression.

Echo was astonished by the amount of control Damon had over his powers. She was also mesmerised by how he looked. He had his hair just like the last time she saw him, and it was a mess. He had unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt, and the red colour of it was a total contrast to the dark blue coat he had on.

Damon tilted his head, and smiled, "Are you going to stand there staring at me? Or are you going to tell me what you're doing here?"

Echo glanced at Hunter, and then back at Damon. She was embarrassing herself, but she couldn't help staring at him, he was just absolutely gorgeous. Finally getting ahold of herself, Echo pointed to Hunter.

"I know you're in this room for the cub, but why are you really here? No one here likes Protectors," Damon stated.

Echo gave a stifled laugh. He looked really good, much better than when she was alive, but he was still the same guy she used to know.

"And I don't like being at a club, yet here we are," Echo replied.

Damon smiled, and ran his hand through his hair, "Now's not the time to smart, Kat. Kaia… the girl I was with might even kill you in a second."

"I'd like to see her try," Echo replied. She smiled, and walked closer to the desk, and kept her hands on the table. She stared at him as his Adam's apple bobbed, "And my name is Echo!"

Echo crossed her hands, and sat in front Damon. She gave him a stoic expression.

Damon leaned back on his seat, and glanced at Hunter who was now asleep. "You should be more careful. What am I supposed to tell your brother if you die?"

"I'm already dead!" Echo blurted.

Damon sighed, with a small smile. He turned his gaze to Echo, she was looking absolutely cute in her outfit, and then he had always thought she was cute. He couldn't stop thinking about her since the last time they saw each other, he was worried about her.

"It's not safe for you to go out alone. Stay here, I've got some work to finish, I'll take you and this little guy home afterwards," Damon stated. He casually pulled up his laptop and began working.

Echo peeked through the side of his laptop screen with a confused look. Damon turned his gaze to her and froze, she looked so cute. "I can protect myself!" she replied.

"I don't doubt that… it's just you wouldn't have to fight anyone if you're with me," Damon lowered the screen of the laptop, staring at Echo.

Echo stared back at him and smiled, turning her gaze to Hunter. "Come on little guy. Let's go sit on the sofa, Damon's got work to do."

Damon smiled as the cub grumbled in her sleep. Echo put her hands around Hunter trying to lift her.

"It's fine, leave her here. He'll wake up if you.."

"Hunter's a girl," Echo revealed. Damon nodded.

"Just leave her here. Anyone who comes in will be afraid of her."

Echo smiled, standing up, she moved towards the sofa, "Or they'll think you're smuggling exotic animals."

Damon chuckled, he stopped when Echo turned to him with a smirk.

"What's so funny?" Echo asked.

Damon smiled, and stood up, walking towards Echo, "Even if I was smuggling exotic animals, no one would dare say anything," the last bit of his sentence turned into a whisper as he leaned on the front of the desk.
