Echo couldn't hold in her giggle. She stopped as soon as she could, but Damon had a broad smile on his face seeing her laugh.
"I missed that laugh," Damon blurted, immediately regretting his words. He was not supposed to say that out loud.
Echo smiled, tilting her head, "You missed me? That's hard to believe. We might have known each other for a long time, but we never spoke much."
Damon crossed his arms, "I remember asking how you were every time we saw each other." He raised his eyebrows, and bit his lip.
Echo caught herself staring at him again. He knew exactly what to do to make her forget her words. She pursed her lips, and shut her eyes, opening them again. She held her breath when she realised that Damon was still watching her.
"Okay, I've got some work to do. Just sit there and do whatever you want, just… don't burn up the office with your magic and stuff," Damon gave Echo a nod, as he went back to his seat, and continued his word.
Echo sighed, and fell back on the sofa. At first she just stared up at the ceiling, then she just closed her eyes trying to remember the past, when the door flew open. Echo's eyes flew open, as she sat up on the sofa.
Kaia stepped in, her face was flushed with anger. Throwing her hands around she asked, "What's she doing here? She should be killed. You think the others will like you bringing a Pro…"
Damon's eyes turned dark. He turned into a mist, and suddenly appeared in front of Kaia, with a knife at her throat. "Open your mouth again, and you're dead!" His voice was calm, which made the threat much terrifying.
Kaia raised her hands in defeat. Damon closed the door, and glanced at Echo, as he turned back to Kaia. "What's your problem? Do you want a fight to break out?"
"Damon. This is pure stupidity, she's a Protector, and she's even got a familiar. This could be a trap. What if someone was following her?" Kaia stared at Damon, her eyes were pure black too.
Echo looked back at Damon who spoke, "I'll deal with her if this is a trap," he glanced at her, making Echo gulp.
It didn't take much to realise that Kaia was against her. Echo watched as the two continued arguing, she knew she was the reason, and she needed to leave. He has his own life, and she was just causing problems.
Echo stood up, walking to the desk, she scooped up Hunter in her hand, "I should go."
Both Damon and Kaia turned their gaze on her. Echo pursed her lips, at the sight of both of them ready to attack.
"Kaia! Get out!" Damon turned to Kaia, he clenched his fist, and stretched his hand out. Kaia got pushed out of the room, and the door shut.
Echo widened her eyes, when Damon turned to her. His eyes, it was as if the darkness was seeping through the veins around his eyes.
"Damon!" Echo called out. He closed his eyes, and clenched his fists. The darkness around his eyes slowly receded. He opened his eyes, and looked at Echo.
"I'm sorry you had to see that," Damon looked at her with soft eyes. He sighed, and walked back to his desk. He was worried about showing Echo his demon side. She didn't need to see it. She was always so sweet and loving, she doesn't have to see him turn into a monster in front of her.
Echo raised her eyebrow, "I've seen worse."
That statement made Damon hold his breath. He looked at Echo.
Echo glanced at Damon, while she thought to herself, 'Does he still think of me like a little girl? He always did, but I'm just as crazy as he is. Maybe he's much better than me, or maybe he's not. Does it really matter? Hmm… he does seem to care about me, but maybe I'm his best friend's little sister.'
Damon stared at Echo, who was staring back at him without saying a single word. He did not want to scare her. "I'll take you home."
"No! No! Finish what you have to do," Echo replied.
"Could you at least keep her on the table then?" Damon asked, pointing to Hunter, who was still curled up in Echo's hands.
Echo glanced at Hunter and back at Damon, "I should go. I'm just making things difficult for you."
Damon sighed, "Please stay. I promise, I'll finish everything soon, and then I'll take you home. It's already late, you shouldn't be out by yourself."
"Damon, I'm not a useless human anymore."
"You weren't useless as a human."
Echo was at a loss of words. He was still treating her the way he used to. He always made her feel better about herself, even when she lost hope in her own skills.
"Damon…" Echo was cut off by him.
"Stay, I won't forgive myself if anything happened to you again," Damon blurted.
Echo swallowed trying to take in what he had just stated. It never occurred to her how he might have felt after the accident, but it wasn't his fault. He wasn't even there at the time of the accident.
"Kat… Echo. Please just stay," Damon repeated.
Echo sighed, he was giving a cute look. It was no doubt that he cared about her, "Fine!" She sat back down on the sofa, and kept Hunter next to her. Unknowingly, Echo drifted off.
Damon was halfway through his work, when he saw Echo asleep on the sofa. He stood up, and walked to her, crouching down beside the sofa. He moved his hand to her face, she looked peaceful in her sleep. His hand was a few centimeters away from her face, when he took his hand away.
"What are you doing?" Hunter asked, raising her head to look at Damon.
Damon kept staring at Echo, "Nothing… You should be quiet, she's probably tired." He turned to Hunter, and picked the cub up, keeping her back on the desk. He then took his coat off and covered Echo.
"You love her don't you?" Hunter asked.
