Chapter 53 - Meeting Damon’s Friend

Echo sighed as she heard the knock on the door once again. 'What is wrong with him? He's so annoying right now.' She walked to the bed, leaving the clothes in her hand, she came back and opened the door.

Damon stared at Echo, and then stepped into the room without a single room. Denzel followed him.

"What do you want?" Echo asked, staring back at him.

Hunter opened her eyes, and watched everything unfolding in front of her.

Denzel glanced at Hunter, "Is that a familiar? I thought they were extinct."

"She's not a familiar," Damon replied, standing in front of Echo who gulped. "Denzel, this is Echo, the promised warrior. Echo, this is Denzel. He's a close friend of mine."

Echo gave a slight smirk, and hid it immediately as she thought to herself, 'So he replaced my brother so soon.' Echo sat back on the bed, as Denzel took his time looking around the room.

"Why is she here? Why isn't she in a dungeon?" Denzel turned to Damon, expecting an answer.

Damon stepped even closer to Echo.

Echo stared at Damon as he bent down and pushed her hair away from behind her neck. His fingers touched the back of her neck, sending shivers down her spine. What was he doing? Why was he getting so close to her? Echo lost her ability to think once she felt his breath on her face. Everything was in slow motion, despite the pounding she felt in her chest.

Damon smirked as he slowly brushed his hands on the back of her neck. This was his chance to show Denzel that Echo was his, and that he shouldn't even think of Echo. He felt Echo shiver slightly, and then he saw the mark on her neck. His smirk vanished, when he saw the fresh wound.

"She's under a binding spell," Damon explained, turning his gaze to Denzel.

Denzel stared at Damon, walking towards them. He looked at the brand on Echo's neck, and then at Damon. "So she's bound to you?... How did you escape?"

Damon stood up, staring at Denzel, "You have no idea how powerful I am… Do you?"

Denzel tilted his head, as he turned his gaze to Echo and back to Damon. "What are you planning to do now?"

Damon glanced at Echo, almost as if he was telling Denzel that they couldn't talk at that moment. "Echo! Get dressed in your new clothes, and meet me in the dining area."

Damon swiftly turned around and left the room, making sure Denzel was following him.

Denzel walked beside Damon as they went back to Damon's room. "You don't trust her?" he asked, once Damon closed his room door.

"She's one of them. Why would I trust her?" Damon replied. He casually walked over to his bed, and sat down. 'I can't just tell him everything. He might be my friend… but something was always off about him.'

"Where's Kaia?"

Damon made eye contact with Denzel, "I couldn't rescue her. I would have been caught."

"You could have sent the Protector. She's one of them, no one would have suspected her."

Damon stood up, his eyes turning dark, "Are you implying that you don't trust me?"

Denzel immediately turned his gaze to the ground, and lowered his head, "Of course not, Damon."

Damon glared at Denzel and in the most calm, and domineering voice, ordered, "Get out!"

Denzel nodded, and walked out as he was ordered.

Damon sighed, and fell back on his bed as his eyes turned back to normal. "I hope he doesn't become a problem."

Echo sighed once Damon and Denzel left. She laid down on the bed, and went through the clothes. Damon had brought her a purple leather jacket and pants, with a yellow shirt.

Echo smiled as she took the jacket in her hand, "He really does have a good sense of style." She sat up on the bed with a smile.

Hunter, who was acting asleep, saw everything that was happening. She waited until Echo left for the bathroom with the clothes. "She really loves him. I don't understand why she wants to suppress those emotions… They make everything extra complex."

Echo got dressed and checked her outfit in the mirror. She loved purple, and the yellow shirt was a total contrast. She opened the bathroom door and stepped out to the room. Hunter was still asleep, Echo sighed, and sat on the bed.

Meanwhile, Denzel stepped out of the gate of the mansion, and got into a fully tinted car. He took his phone out, dialling a number. "I think he's been compromised."

Damon was deep in thought, 'Did he suspect something? If he did, it should be about Kaia, she's always by my side and he knows that I won't just leave her behind… Why didn't I think about this before jumping straight into action.'

*Knock* *Knock*

"Damon! It's me, Rose. Can I come in?" Rose called out from behind the door.

Damon stared at the door for a while before replying, "Come in!"

Rose immediately opened the door, stepping into the room. She shut the door, and sat beside Damon on the bed.

"I saw Denzel come in. Is everything alright?" Rose asked in a soft voice. Her eyebrows were creased as she pouted. She leaned her head on Damon's shoulder.

Damon kept his gaze on the table in front of him, "Everything's fine. There's nothing I can't handle."

Rose pursed her lips, and anxiously watched Damon's face, "What about that Protector? She might be trouble. What if she tries to escape?"

"She won't, trust me. Just stay out of all of this, okay. I don't want you to get caught up in all this. You'll get hurt."

"I can Protect myself. I've been practising," Rose stood up and punched the air.

Damon smirked, "You might be able to take out another human, but Echo, and the demons… They are much more powerful than you think…" He continued the sentence in his head, 'Much more powerful than I thought.'
