A few minutes had passed, yet the traffic jam was just as terrible. Not a single vehicle had inched forward.
Echo leaned back, sinking into her seat. "This is one of the worst traffic jams I've ever seen!" she scoffed, while staring blankly in front of her.
Denzel smiled, "This is such a normal day for me, that I rarely even remember that it wasn't like this in the past."
Echo sighed and her shoulders heaved. She was just about ready to get out of the car and walk, when the lane they were on began to move. Her face lit up, "Finally, we're moving!"
Denzel followed the vehicles, turning onto another sub road. He took a glance at the rearview mirror, and saw the cub asleep. His lips turned upwards, "I'm sorry about the traffic jam earlier. This road should take us to a less crowded road."
Echo simply nodded.
The demon noticed that Echo was much relaxed with him now. He knew he wouldn't get another perfect opportunity to question her, "I'm sorry to pry, but why were you approaching Rose's room? I thought the two of you hated each other."
"We don't hate each other," Echo replied. She did not need much time to think about her answer. It was obvious that Rose did not like her, but going as far as to say that they 'hated' each other was a little too much. Yes, they had only known each other for a day, but during that day, Rose was a thorn in her life. Echo felt her hands clenched into fists, as she thought, 'She is out with my boyfriend! And she always tries to act like she hasn't done anything wrong... Maybe I do hate her.' Her blood began to boil.
"She is one peculiar human," Denzel spoke, after noticing the change in Echo's demeanour, and continued, "Everyone in the mansion finds her rather odd."
"Except for the butler, she seems to have a motherly instinct over Rose."
"The butler, don't even get me started about her. I don't understand why Damon even keeps her around," Denzel replied. He glanced at Echo, and was pleased when she continued speaking.
Echo just let out all her thoughts. She finally found someone who thought just like her, and could speak more freely to Denzel than Damon. "The butler was in my room, at first I thought she might have been snooping around, because that's what Hunter told me, but turns out she was just dropping my dress off. But there's something I can't clearly wrap my head around about her."
"Oh I've felt the same. Sometimes I wonder if she's a spy working for a higher demon," Denzel replied.
Echo raised her eyebrow. The words Damon spoke rang in her head, 'A spy? So she cannot be trusted? But Damon was so sure that she would not work against him! Should I tell this to Damon? Or would things get out of hand? Yes! He might get angry, especially because I don't have any evidence. Maybe if I found some evidence first... yes! I need to find evidence!'
"Why would you think that?" Echo asked.
Denzel hid his smirk, "I've seen her sneaking around other places around the mansion. At first I thought it was nothing, but then I began seeing her in places a butler was unlikely to be at. I can't be sure, since I lack proper evidence."
Echo nodded, as she stared out the window in silence.
Denzel smiled to himself. Everything was going according to his plan, now all he could do was hope that Echo checked on the butler. It would give him some time, and stop the butler from jeopardising everything he had worked for.
They finally arrived at the restaurant. It was the same place Damon had taken Echo to the previous night. Echo gaped at the restaurant. It was completely different from last night. If anything she would have thought the whole building had transformed into a different one.
The lights that lit up the outside were nowhere in sight, and were replaced by several flowering plants.
"Where are we?" Echo asked.
Denzel got out of the car, helping her and Hunter out too. Once the car was taken away by the valet, he replied, "This place belongs to Damon. Most of the guests here are demons, so you don't have to worry about Hunter." He held Echo's hand, and led her inside.
The interior of the restaurant was the exact same as the previous night. Not a single thing had changed, except for the staff.
The staff gave priority to Denzel, and found them an empty seat. To Echo's surprise, she found Damon and Rose at the same table.
Damon's eyes widened. He was surprised to see Echo, and she was looking gorgeous as ever. That dress suited her perfectly, but what was she doing with Denzel? Damon's eyes twitched as he tried to keep his anger in check.
"Hi!" Echo smiled, sweetly. She waved at Damon, as she sat beside Denzel.
Damon smiled back, and turned his gaze to Denzel. 'What is he doing with Echo? Why is he bringing her here? And why does she look like she's on a date? Should I teach him a lesson right now? It would stop the others who were staring at her too. What was wrong with them? Was she something everyone needed a look at?'
Damon's eyes began to turn dark. Denzel had a smug face, as he glared at Damon. He simply leaned back, and downed a glass of alcohol that was on the table. He sighed, thinking, 'What a disrespectful little demon! I brought his girlfriend to him and he threatens me with those eyes. Does he think he can win in a fight against me? I won't go down that easily, this is my reputation and honour on the line.'
Rose held Damon's hand, "Please calm down, Damon. I told you she couldn't be trusted. She knows nothing about loyalty. She even harassed me last night!"
