He Was That Desperate

Adam couldn't remember the last time he had this much fun doing anything. He bowed dramatically when he was done and Carter clapped as hard as he could, looking at him in awe. 

"Wow! That was so cool! How'd you do that?!" 

"I got a magic kit and practiced all weekend. You can use it too but I think your mom will have to help read the instructions." 

Carter bounced up and down in excitement. "Really? Then I can be a real magician too?"

"Yeah."

Adam took off the top hat and plunked it on the boy's head. Then stumbled when he found himself being tightly hugged. When was the last time ANYONE hugged him?

He didn't know what he was supposed to do. Should he hug him back? It would be kind of hard from this angle. He hadn't figured out what to do yet when he heard a gasp of shock coming from the hallway. 

"Carter! What are you doing?!" 

"Mr. Adam is gonna let me play with his magic kit so I can be a real magician!"
