This Was Seriously Going To Suck

Laney couldn't believe this man had everything ready to go just waiting for some poor desperate fool like her to walk in and offer it to. Everything about this meeting had been fairly unbelievable so far. 

"What IS the cover story?" she asked. 

"We get engaged as soon as you're pregnant on the premise of me taking responsibility for an accident while we were casually dating," the Consultant replied promptly. "He knows I'm not an irresponsible person so he should buy it."

Laney was skeptical but supposed she would have to trust him on this. Artificial insemination was a lot better than trying repeatedly the natural way. It would get things over with faster too so she could move on with her life and finally be able to rest easy knowing she and her sister were taken care of.
