I Think I Made A New Friend Today!

"Still. What's your reading level? Because I'm at a sixth grade one," Preston told Lucy, still entirely focused on what he was building.

Oh. "First grade. Cuz that's what grade I'm in."

"Yeah, you definitely couldn't read these then. Sorry."

"That's okay! Maybe you could tell me the story? I do love stories. I miss them. My dad used to read to me before bed every day but now he only can on the weekends."

Preston sighed. "Alright then. So the book starts with this farmer whose land was destroyed by a dragon…"

Lucy was enthralled. He was a surprisingly good storyteller even if he didn't do the funny voices like Daddy. She listened to him long after she finished with her popsicle stick house.

"…and that's about it," he finished lamely.

"Wow! That's so cool, Preston! Thanks for telling me!"

"You're welcome. What's your name, anyway? I can't remember. I'm not good with remembering names."

"Luc—Luz. My name's Luz."
