HER IDENTITY

"…it might not be appropriate to disclose any information regarding the patient. You are not her family, are you?" Dr. Fuziwoka looked at Alex and Mateo.

Mateo pressed his middle finger on his glasses to keep them straight.

He said, "You are right. There is no point in getting involved with this matter. The police will find her family and they will come to pick her up."

The girl immediately turned her head toward Mateo and stared at him with a chilling gaze.

Mateo became nervous from her one look.

"Wh-what's with her?" he stuttered. "Did I say something wrong? Doesn't she want to go back to her family?"

The girl didn't say anything. She once again buried her face in Alex's chest.

Alex chuckled. "It's not like you to get so flustered."

He looked at the koala girl and patted her head. "You, what's your name? You shouldn't hug just anyone. Didn't your parents teach you to be aware of strangers?"

The girl didn't respond. She only tightened her arms around him.

Alex felt helpless. "Are you mute? If you don't speak, I'll have to let the doctor take care of you and leave with my friend."

The girl lifted her head and looked at him.

Her eyes bored at him as she was trying to figure out if he was telling the truth or giving her false threats.

However, Alex stayed calm and his expression was serious.

The girl frowned and looked down.

"…want…"

Her voice was hardly audible.

"Come again?" Alex asked.

"…I… don't want… to stay… here…"

Her voice was low and coarse due to her dry throat.

Alex assured her, "Your family will come to pick you up soon. Don't worry."

The girl shook her head. "…No… family…"

"What? She doesn't want to be with her family?! I won't allow a nameless girl who breaks glasses with her voice, stuck with us!" Mateo stated.

"Let's stay here until her checkup is complete," Alex suggested.

He looked at Dr. Fuziwoka and said, "Please direct us to another ward."

Dr. Fuziwoka thought for a moment and said, "Mr. Alex, you are not her family. I can't let you make the decisions on her behalf…"

Alex stared at him. "…You called me to stabilize her and I'm here. Do it."

Dr. Foziwoka's expression froze. Then, he said, "Please come this way."

Alex looked at the girl. "Stand on your feet. I'm not going to carry you there."

His voice was neither cold nor distant. He wasn't commanding her either. His voice was gentle.

However, the way he talked to her made her naturally comply with his words.

Even Mateo was stunned when she obediently lowered her legs and stood in front of Alex. She hung her head. Her silky hair covered her face, not revealing her expression.

Alex expressionlessly reached out his hand.

The girl speechlessly grabbed his hand. Then, they followed Dr. Fuziwoka.

The doctor ran several tests. They even examined if she was sexually assaulted or not.

Soon, it was past midnight.

Mateo yawned. "You remember we have to go to the company tomorrow, right?"

Alex was staring at the girl through the glass. He was on the other side of the room.

"I do," he replied.

"Then, how long are we going to stay here?"

"You go first. I'll stay here until her family comes."

"You do realize that she is in good hands, right?"

"I feel bad to leave her by herself."

"You do remember what she did, right? She made some nurses bleed."

"She must be a singer for having such a strong voice." A voice came from the room.

Alex and Mateo watched Dr. Fuziwoka as he exited out of the room.

"How is she?" Mateo asked.

Dr. Fuziwoka stated, "No injuries. Not even a scratch. Her skin is soft. She was barefoot but it does not seem like she was walking on the street for long. She wasn't assaulted by anyone or anything."

"However, she might catch the flu from being naked in the rain. I have already given her an antidote. It will take care of the virus if there's any present."

"That's reassuring. Thank you, Doctor." Alex gave him a short nod.

Dr. Fuziwoka stretched his lips. "It is my duty."

Alex mentioned, "You said something about her being a singer. Why do you think she is a singer? Because of her strong voice?"

Dr. Fuziwoka explained, "Sound at the right frequency and with proper amplification — can shatter glass. A human voice producing that same natural frequency will also cause the glass to vibrate."

"This common phenomenon is known as resonance and occurs because the singer's voice displaces nearby air particles, which can crash into the glass like invisible waves."

"Then, we can be assured that she identifies as a singer. Nothing to worry about." Mateo sighed in relief.

He didn't have time to relax before two police officers came.

They walked through the corridor and stood in front of them.

One of the officers said, "Mr. Alex, Mr. Mateo Lopez. And this must be Dr. Fuziwoka. I am Officer Shinobu.

"I'm in charge of investigating the case of the woman who was found naked in the street."

Mateo raised an eyebrow.

He mentioned, "You just said you are in charge of the case of the woman who was found naked in the street."

"What do you mean by 'woman'? Were you not able to identify her?"

Alex and Dr. Fuziwoka looked at Officer Shinobu.

Officer Shinobu regretfully said, "I'm afraid not. There is no information about her anywhere in the Japanese Government. We scanned her fingerprints. She is neither a Japanese criminal nor a civilian."

"Maybe she is a foreigner," Alex stated.

Officer Shinobu told them, "We don't have enough manpower right now. We will run a check first thing tomorrow. It might take some time. Till then, we need to keep an eye on her."

Alex asked, "Where do you want to keep her?"

Mateo sternly told him, "Alex, that's not our problem."

Dr. Fuziwoka said, "We can keep her in the hospital until she is better but not for more than that. Also, we can't keep her here for free."

"I can keep her with me."
