Yren walked around the side of his house, and a bright smiling face was waiting for him. Siegfried was wearing heavy armor and carried a large broadsword with which he was very skilled.
"Looking good! You are a lot faster than I am, so the light armor suits you! Your dad helped me make this stuff!" Siegfried said proudly.
Yren smiled back, forcing himself to not look down. There was no point in getting upset yet; it wasn't like his class didn't know he was strong, but the Dungeon License was what everyone gauged your strength with.
"Yeah, that looks really cool! Your dad has always been helping me with getting stronger and lighter on my feet! Funny how our parents work without even talking the entire time!" Yren laughed, and both boys headed towards the center of town.
"That's because my father is a maniac that can use all weapons! Idiot!" Siegfried growled and then imitated his father, "You can't just learn one weapon, or you will never survive! Stupid!"
Yren laughed, but he loved that about Goranth. Siegfried's father had tried to get him to use every weapon that he could find while also attacking him using them.
"Yeah, your father is a bit of a barbarian, but he helped me like my dad did for you, right? All worked out in the end," Yren said with a genuine smile this time.
Yren was starting to feel better, and if worse came to worse, he would just laugh it off. He could always declare he was going to get stronger in the future and storm off like in one of the books Yren had read.
"What do you think our scores will be today? I mean, on our licenses?" Siegfried asked Yren as he got closer to the Guild Hall.
"I am not really expecting much, to be honest. I have studied the dungeons till I was blue in the face, and I am decent with most weapons, but I don't know how that will work," Yren said, and that was the honest truth, but now he knew it was going to below.
"Well, I think I will have good stats but don't discount yourself, Yren. You have worked hard, but we won't know until we touch the Aptitude Jewel," Siegfried laughed as they approached the Guild Hall.
People were standing outside talking, but most of them smiled and waved as the boys approached.
People in the town were amiable, but there were some Adventures that acted self-important and bullied others. The problem was that they were usually highly ranked and got away with most acts short of murder, but there were ways around that.
The Boys walked into the guild, and there weren't any of their classmates in the hall. There were many tables with Adventurers gathered around them in their worn armor.
There were some in brand new armor, but they all looked like high-Ranked Adventures. The boys had been on a tour of the guild before, so they knew that they needed to head to the front bar.
It doubled as a reception desk for new Adventures during test days like today. There was a large glass ball on the counter, and both boys walked over to it.
"So you two are the first ones to come for your tests?" Asked a beautiful red-haired girl from behind the bar.
"Yup, I guess we beat the rest, but I don't want to waste too much time here! There are Dungeons waiting for us to explore!" Siegfried said with a confident laugh.
Yren just smiled. He wanted to get this over as fast as possible to get to his father's Dungeon.
"Well, place your hand on the Aptitude Jewel, and it will carve out your license," The girl instructed, and Siegfried stepped forward first, placing his hand on the jewel.
As he did, it lit up with blue light, and then white swirled in, and light streamed down on a small card made from a particular crystal. The cards were magically enchanted to track the Spirit of each Adventurer and could be updated by specially trained guild members.
There were some cheers from the other Adventurers, and Yren smiled as he watched his friend. Blue with white meant he would have an excellent chance to get stronger with Ice skills, and he could learn Water and Ice Magic.
"Congratulations!" Yren said, slapping his friend's armored back.
"Yes! This is great, I mean, I wanted Fire, but this is pretty cool! I bet that you will get Fire since I didn't, haha!" Siegfried said with a large grin as he took his Dungeon License and stepped out of the way.
Yren took a deep breath and took his friend's place in front of the clear orb as the redhead placed his license under. Yren was starting to get worried again, but he clenched his fist and put his right hand on the Aptitude Jewel.
The orb didn't do anything at first, and Yren wasn't sure if he was doing something wrong, but then colors started to stream in, but the orbs were still clear. This was not a result that he had ever heard of, and the look on the red head's face said the same.
"What? How is this possible? Wait… Can I talk to you in a private room? I know this is forward of me, but I need to check something," The girl asked Yren.
The room had gone quiet, and Yren wasn't sure what was going on, but he nodded, then turned to his friend. Siegfried looked just as shocked, but then he grinned.
"Well, I don't know what that means, but you will have to tell me in a couple days! Dad said I couldn't come home until I ranked up to level three! So I'll be grabbing my pack from home! Good luck with whatever cool thing you got! Wish we could go together, but dad said he would beat me if I didn't do it solo!" Siegfried shouted as he jogged out of the Guild Hall, grinning.
