Ready To Fight

Yren walked into the Guild Hall after another Adventurer tried to trip him, jarring him out of his thoughts. As his father had asked, he hadn't reacted, but he knew about that Adventurer, and he was part of a gang that rang in town.

They liked to harass newbies for a cut of their profits and were primarily harmless, but there were stories of them doing some pretty sick stuff. The guards were investigating them, but people wouldn't talk about them out of fear.

"You are back already?"

That snapped Yren out of his thoughts, and he looked up into Ginny's green eyes and frowning face. Yren smiled and rubbed the back of his head, feeling a bit awkward.

"Can we talk in that room again?" Yren asked, and Ginny's eyes widened in surprise, and she nodded.

"Of course! Come this way, and I will get someone to replace me," Ginny instructed Yren, leading him back to the same room.

Ginny opened the door for him, and Yren went inside to side down.

She quickly closed the door, just short of slamming it in her nervousness. The moment it was closed, Ginny raced up to her mother's office with a racing heart.

Rephilia had stopped by to inform her after they talked that she was to be notified as soon as he came back to the guild. Ginny was not excited about this, but she was too terrified of her mother to disobey her.

Ginny knocked at the door, and her mother told her to enter.

"He is back!" Ginny said in a breathy voice, and Rephilia looked up from her desk with a frown.

"Already? That was barely anytime at all! What is the meaning of this?! Does he think this is a joke?!" Rephilia roared as she grabbed her desk and flung it across the room, destroying a shelf full of books Ginny's mother had never read, nor did she plan to.

"What? He wanted to talk to me privately, so, umm, I'll let you know how it goes," Ginny said nervously as she started to turn to leave.

"No, I am coming with you! I need to make sure you are making a reasonable effort with this young man! If not, I shall take it over! Kimora will be hopeless like you as well! That stupid father of her's! Ordering me around like some common wife!" Rephilia roared, standing up.

"What?!" Ginny exclaimed, feeling like her brain was about to melt after what she had just heard, but her mother ripped the thought away.

In her anger, Rephilia picked up her chair and cast Enflame until it fell away as nothing more than ash. The bright display made Ginny jump to hide behind the open door until her wild mother was done destroying her office.

"Come, we are going to see the seed of that man, and I will gauge his worth!" Rephilia growled as she grabbed her daughter and dragged her down the stairs.

Below, Yren was concerned about the sounds of a monster he was hearing from above him. Whoever was up there was in a foul mood, but Yren hoped he didn't cause Ginny any problems.

Suddenly the door banged open, and a tall and muscular woman with a terrifying look on her face glared at Yren. Then his eyes nearly fell out of his head in shock at seeing who she was dragging.

"Ginny, are you okay?!" Yren asked in shock, standing up fast.

He didn't care who this person was; there was no reason to hurt Ginny. Yren glared at the green-eyed woman with red hair, and something slowly started to click in place.

"It's okay, Yren, this is my mother," Ginny said from her place on the floor.

The tall woman picked her daughter up and brushed her off ruffly like she was a rug to be dusted. Yren gritted his teeth, unsure what to do, and Rephilia smiled at him predatorily.

"The fire in those eyes is good! Don't worry, my daughter is fine, but I like your reaction! You are ready to fight me, hey boy?!" The tall woman taunted Yren after leaning into Yren's face after putting her daughter down.

She was wearing a bathing suit top that exposed more flesh than Yren was comfortable with, making him take a step back.

"Mmm, but still a boy at heart. I'll give you some time with him, child. Don't disappoint me."

Yren knew who this was now, and she far exceeded his expectations, but he didn't understand why she was so rough with her daughter. He watched as Rephilia walked out of the room, closing the door behind herself.

"I'm so sorry!" Ginny said and burst into tears as she collapsed on the floor.

Yren rushed over to Ginny's side and put an arm around her shoulder.

"Nothing to be sorry about. My father warned me about your mother, but I never could imagine she would be so cruel to her own daughter!" Yren exclaimed, and Ginny wiped her eyes as the tears flowed.

"She normally isn't this pushy, but she means well. I just don't want her to force you to do something you don't want to do with me!" Ginny cried, sniffling, but Yren stood up and offered her his hand.

"I actually came to ask you to join my party tomorrow. That might get your mother off your back for a while," Yren explained as Ginny accepted his hand and got up.

"Really, is the dungeon really that hard?! Is that the reason that you came back so quickly?" Ginny asked curiously.

"No, I ranked up, but I did hit a bit of a snag-" Yren started to say, but Ginny lost it.

"What?! No! You were just ranked two this morning! And you were barely gone!" Ginny explained, pushing Yren backward into the couch.

Yren fell back in surprise at the change in Ginny's mood suddenly.

"Let me see your license; I just can't believe this!" Ginny exclaimed as she pushed Yren over to make room for her beside him.

Yren smiled and reached for his license. This woman was much stronger than she let on or maybe had the confidence to be.
