The call - II

Carefully, getting up after silencing her phone, Joyce softly padded on the floor into the bathroom and close to the door behind her. She then locked it.

Picking up the phone as quickly as she could, Joyce placed it next to her ear, and whispered, "Declan?"

"What are you expecting someone else to call you in the middle of the night?"

Yikes, he was like a shark out for blood. But it was kind of stupid to take his name when she knew he was going to call her.

"No no, I was not expecting anyone else other than you. I'm kind of grateful that you actually called me."

Joyce waited for him to say something. Hopefully, since he was not in company anymore, he would be more receiving but ended up receiving silence from his end.

Her heart felt heavy at the lack of response from her brother. He was quick witted and always had one on the spot to rebuke her back with.

It was painful to watch him pull away from her like she had never been close to his heart in the first place.
