Chapter 21

They did venture into the city where the statue of Lord Shiva was currently being presented to the public. While Nuru, Layla, and Megan were walking ahead, Wayne was behind the trio. Scanning the area as they walk.

The place was beautiful, since it was almost dawn, there were few people on the ground. Some were barefoot, while others were giving tribute to Lord Shiva. There was an air of tranquility that would make you realize how precious life is.

For Wayne however, being in a sacred place was lost to him. What he did enjoy was the view of the Himalayas. The construction of the temple and the city at the foot of the mountains gave people an up-close look at it. With his eyes, he can see the jagged rocks and the slopes of the mountains.

He remembered climbing a mountain when he took his Beta test. It took him a total of six days to reach the top, and climb down again. No rigs, no support, nor ropes. Just bare hands. Ever since then, he longed to climb the Himalayas.

"Someday," he whispered, looking up to the top of the mountain with a smile of promise written on his face.

At that same moment, Megan looked at Wayne to ask him something. She gasped when she saw how a smile transformed his face.

He was drop-dead handsome. The scar on his face did make him look dangerous, but at the same time added charm to his overall appeal. Plus his body is every woman's fantasy. Too bad he gets on her nerves.

Wayne felt Megan's gaze, he looked at her, and their eyes locked. He felt his jackal respond to her gaze. His other half was always disinterested in everything, but the moment they saw Megan, he was slowly moving forward. As if he was drawn to this woman who had the most addictive smell.

He walked toward her without breaking their gaze. He stopped in front of her. Their eyes were unblinking. A test of dominance. The one to blink loses. They stood there, for several minutes until someone bumped into Megan, making her stumble, blinked, and nearly fell on the ground. Wayne caught her and held her upright against his chest.

There was no ounce of fat in his body. He was pure muscle, and man, oh man, he even smelled nice. Megan closed her eyes, she had to remember that he gets on her nerves, and he is an arrogant prick. But she cannot erase the fact that he was the one who saved her. She could feel the heat coming out from his body. Although they were wearing thick jackets, it was impossible not to feel a Were beings body heat.

One of his hands was on her shoulder, while the other was around her waist. A shiver ran through her body when he absently rubbed her hip.

Wayne on the other hand was smiling. Then it turned into a grin. He slowly leaned down and blew on Megan's ear, it made her look up. Their lips were mear inches from each other. They could see how the cold air made their breath visible. His eyes traced every line on her face, paying particular attention to her lips.

Is he going to kiss me?! Megan thought. She watched as Wayne slowly lowered his head. She held her breath, and just looked at him.

"I won," he whispered, against her lips, before he gently ran his tongue on her parted lips. He slowly drew back and stood upright. He licked his lips as if he was transferring her taste to his lips. "Tasty." He said, then he gave her a sexy grin that every woman in the vicinity would long to have.

And what did she do? Nothing. Megan was too stunned to move. Not to mention she can still feel his tongue on her lips too. But does it mean she has given up? No...she was just…

He suddenly dropped his arm across her shoulder and motioned her to walk. She did try to elbow him, but he just chuckled.

"Come on, pet. We need to catch up with the twins." He said, casually rubbing her upper arms.

"I am not your pet," she replied. She gave him a 'death' glare, as they walked and looked for the twins.

Oh my dear Megan, he thought, you will be mine.

"Uncle Cam," Rena quietly said, "we have to go back to the plane."

The old man looked down at their new Alpha. Who would have thought a tiny woman like her would be the leader of one of the world's biggest Were Nation. All of them felt the transfer, the resonance. And all of them mourned the moment their connection to McKenzie was cut. In all the years he had lived, he did not expect that a death of an Alter Being would affect him greatly. But it did.

And now?

He glanced at the man standing behind her. He was not touching her, but he could see how much he wanted to.

Rooka. Alpha of the Middle Eastern and African Nations. The sole heir to Khalid's empire. Oh, yes, he had an adopted brother, but the law states that the only male blood relative can be alpha. But with Rooka and Wayne, it was like the laws had to be broken.

He looked at the Middle Eastern Alpha, as he gave half of his attention to Serena. He was a prime example of a good leader. The things the two brothers have achieved were legendary. They were regarded as Death and his Reaper. He glanced at the sole female alpha. Does she know the man who accompanied her?

He looked back at Rooka, only to find him, studying him too. He smiled. When Rooka's eyes narrowed, he let loose a big joyful laugh. Oh, McKenzie, you made the right choice. He hugged Serena. The kind of hug he longed to give to a daughter he would never have. "You must listen to whatever Alpha Rooka had suggested," he began. He looked her in the eye before adding, "his suggestions are far better than a hundred of us telling you what you should do. He is a good leader, fair and reasonable. He is not without flaws, but he will never let you be in the path of danger."

"The last time I saw him was when I was seven years old, Uncle Cam. Why should I trust him rather than my dad's lieutenants?"

Cam smiled and kissed her forehead. "Because, it is what you should do," he whispered. "Godspeed, Alpha," he said. Much louder voice. "The Werewolf Council is waiting for you." He looked at Rooka and said to him, "guard her. She is the only Daire in the world."

There was a glimpse of the darkness that appeared in his eyes. "I am Death. Anyone who touches what is mine will die."

Serena snapped her attention to Rooka the moment the words left his mouth. Death. He is Death. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She remembered some of the words she uttered while she was in trance. She was not expecting that Death is not death, but a name. When she opened her eyes, Rooka was looking at her.

I hate you, fate
