"Is there something wrong, princess?" Lem asked.
Serena was behind Rooka when she felt an ominous presence in the air. It was just a hint, but she was aware that something was not right. When she saw Rooka pause and glanced at Kaz, her instincts were screaming at her.
"Serena, why don't you drive the ATV?" He asked, there was a playful tone in his voice, but when she looked at his eyes, Death was showing itself.
Serena smiled and said, "No, I'm fine. You drive. I don't know how to drive an ATV. Dad never had a chance to teach me."
"Okay, but you will be riding in front of me-"
"No." Serena looked at him, his body was tense like he was expecting something. She reached out to pull his head close to hers so their forehead touched. Their eyes met.
She saw his wolf trying to break free, to dominate. But without the aid of the full moon, it could only manifest its aggregation, its anger, and its thirst for blood through Rooka. Rooka in turn tries hard to rein in his alpha tendencies and at the same time suppress his wolf's wants.
She kissed his forehead. And whispered, "I'm going to be fine. Rooka needs to be focused, please help him." She saw his wolf close its eyes and slowly pull back. The change was minimal, but anyone who had been with Rooka for a long time could see the tension leave his body.
Kaz was worried. His alpha's skills as a warrior were legendary. At a very young age, he was given the name Death Alpha, and his beta Wayne, The Reaper. Their animal sides were always close to the surface, which is why both of them work well together. However, for the last five years, their Wolves were becoming more and more aggressive. Khalid was worried about his two sons.
But now? Will Serena's touch be enough?
"Let's go," Serena said as a frown suddenly appeared on her forehead.
"What's wrong?" Rooka asked.
"We need to go back to the plane, I'm worried that Wayne and Megan might kill each other," she replied.
A smile broke out from Rooka and Kaz. Then they began to laugh. Bewildered, Rena just raised her eyebrows, mimicking Rooka. It made Rooka laugh harder. In the end, he just slung an arm across her shoulder to direct her to their ATV. He kissed her on the forehead before he put the helmet on her. When that was done, he got on the ATV and started the engine. Kaz was again in front while the two Alpha were in the rear.
"Princess," Lem began. He could feel the vibration in the air. He knew something was not right, and it was directed at the two Alpha.
"I know, Lem," she replied. As much as she wants Rooka not to worry, she has a responsibility to the Weres that were still on the lookout for the temple. Serena took off her helmet and threw it on the ground. Then, she withdrew her arms around Rooka and flipped, until her back was leaning against his back.
Rooka knew she was going to do something, and it made him furious that she disregarded her safety. He, too, threw his helmet and shouted at her, "Damn it, Serena, what are you trying to do?!"
"Just drive, Rooka, I know what I'm doing," she said. Looking at the terrain, it was then she noticed that there were Weres who were following them. At least fifteen Were Beings were doing their best to keep up. They must have known that they were about to return.
Having Pyrokinesis as your power does have some ups and downs. Being in a place where snow is everywhere, definitely counts as a down. They also did not bring any firearms with them. Frustration filled Serena. How can she defend them when she can't even use fire?
That was when she felt something cold appear on her hands. When she looked at them it appeared that some kind of smoke was coming out of her hand. The smoke had the same property as dry ice that was suddenly dropped on a glass of water. Serena honestly didn't know what was happening until she flicked her hand.
Sharp icicles suddenly appeared and they were quickly buried on the rough road. Her eyes widened. Whatever was happening, she was going to roll with it.
Serena then looked at the were which was almost near their ATV. A mist began to swirl around him. Covering him, then in one blink, he was encased with ice as if he was left inside a freezer overnight. She glanced at her hands again, but the smoke-like thing was gone. When she looked at the weres chasing them, she could see the air currents around them.
"You can manipulate the temperature, Princess," Lem said. "Not just the air currents, but everything."
Serena's heart began to pound. To have that kind of ability, was something out of fantasy books and movies she had watched. Who would have thought she could have that?
"Serena!"
The shout came from Rooka who was trying to avoid being swiped by a member of the Black Were who gained on them. Time was not on their side. In a blink of an eye, all the enemies who were chasing them were encased in a solid block of ice. Even if their internal body heat was higher than humans, the ice surrounding them was clear, making it hard for them to break it.
Mom, if being an Elementalist is the reason why my power was locked. You did the right thing. Serena thought, as she looked at the human or rather were ice cubes that were left on the mountain road. She wondered if her people would be able to capture one of these ice cube men. Then again, it would be better if they hadn't. Yes, all of the people she had left were seasoned warriors, but it doesn't change the fact that as an Alpha of the region she is responsible for their safety. Rena also knew that the ice men would be long gone.
"Go! Tell Wayne to meet us on the plane!" She shouted. All she could do was look at the early morning sky and wished Megan was okay.
