No one spoke. Aeris sat with the rest of the reading group, but Lanry wasn’t there. According to Glee, no one had seen him since Lady Mariette’s arrest. The butler wasn’t letting anyone in and no one seemed to be coming out.
First Rowen, now Lanry. The circumstances were different, but Aeris still felt a lump in her throat thinking about it. Even with the progress they had been making, it felt as if everything was going wrong. She wanted to help him somehow, but there was nothing she could do. Lady Mariette had been caught in front of dozens of witnesses, making threats and even brandishing a gun.
The others had to sense her melancholy as well. No one was their usual cheerful selves. Any dialogue was kept to questions and answers, both short and blunt.
For the first time, Aeris was glad when the lessons were over.
