Chapter 16: Heartbreak

Janice rolls and falls over. Ow! She gets up, rubbing her butts. A paper placed on the bed catches her eyes. On the paper, dates are written with a black marker and are cut with red leaving only one to be cut. She picks up the red marker and opens the cap. "This cuts today too." She smiles, goes to the bathroom, changes into an elegant black dress, and goes downstairs. Janice was excited and was eagerly waiting for the week to end soon. Why did she want it? She didn't know. Neither did she want to think of it.

Whoa! Janice clasps her mouth and walks closer. Her fish glass has been replaced with something extraordinary. She looks around and finds no one. Christian must be asleep at this hour, and Kingsley? She doesn't know about him. Sometimes he walks Leo early, and sometimes he wakes up late.

Janice touches the bowl with her fingertip, admiring its beauty. The fish, which was static a moment ago, starts to wiggle its tail excitedly at her sight. "Are you enjoying your new home?" she asks, and the fish rotates in a circle. "Well, you should be." She pokes. "But who buys it? Dylan? But how could he? He doesn't even know what happened that day!" She takes a step back, moving her eyes along with the curves of the stand. "It might be expensive!"

Her phone buzzes. "Have you seen it already?" Dylan's text clears her confusion. This anonymous present must have been bought by him. How does he manage to do all this? He will never tell her.

"You never miss a chance to surprise. Do you?" replies Janice.

"So do you," he texts back quickly as if he had been waiting for her too.

She couldn't resist her fingers and writes, "Where are you?" She has been missing him since he left the CK villa, and now the wait is over.

"I guess you know where to find me," he replies.

Janice guesses that she knows. He hasn't been home for one week so he might be in the practice room now. She does her taekwondo practice there every morning and evening. Sometimes her training went smooth, and sometimes she got bruises. Still, she managed to surpass the tasks given by Christian. The room is different than that in which she and Christian had their first fight. They never share that room with anyone other than the Dragon roar team.

True to this time, too, because she finds that room empty. "Where else could he have been? Does he have a company?" she asks herself. She feels disappointed, and then something clicks in her mind. She changes her track and runs for the other room in a minute. Her heart is beating very fast inside her chest. She crosses her finger.

Janice finds Kingsley at the door. She stops to catch her breath because she runs all the way here. The door of the room is slightly open, and he is peeking. She taps him, and he jerks like he has seen a ghost. "Bloody hell!" Kingsley exhales, placing a hand on his chest where his heart rests. The other hand holds a phone.

"What are you doing?" she asks. Kingsley places a finger on her lips to hush her. He looks into her sparkling eyes and then back off.

"What are 'you' doing here? Go!" he says sharply. Janice stuns. She does not expect this to be coming. She has never seen him that agitate before. Kingsley exhales. "Hey! Wasn't planning to freak you out. You aren't going to like this anyway." Janice can't understand what he is trying to say, so he extends his hand in which he grabs his phone but then retracts. Janice shrugs and holds the handle of the door. "Okay, I was messing. You are my partner, but promise me you will not tell anyone about this. Um… pinkie promise?" He extends his little finger, and she grabs it. He hands her his phone.

"You are taking Dylan's pictures without him knowing? Hey! wait." She zooms into the picture and spots a girl along with Dylan, who for sure is Fang. She has placed her hand around his and has been very close to him. "What is she doing here again?" After seeing Fang with Dylan, her excitement to see Dylan has vanished completely. "So I now know where to find him," she says in her head.

"Ahm well," Kingsley rubs the back of his neck and takes his phone back.

"Let me handle it myself," says Janice and rolls her sleeves up like she is preparing herself for the fight.

Kingsley sighs. "Whoa! It is of no use." Janice looks at him perplexed, thinking, why would he say such a thing to her? She examines him thoroughly and gets to the conclusion that there is something he is keeping from her.

"You are hiding something. Aren't you?" Janice narrows her eyes at him. "What is it? Tell me." Tears have already taken their place in her eyes, replacing sparkle.

"Uh… umm you know that her father holds a reputable position in the diamond marketplace?" He begins. "And also she is famous taekwondion?" It looks quite difficult for him to gather words for what he is trying to say.

"So what?" Janice grit her teeth.

"So… Dylan's father has chosen her as Dylan's suitor," he lets out and looks away. He doesn't want to hurt her, but he feels guilty for not telling her the truth because sooner or later, Fang will be Dylans' bride.

Janice stares at Kingsley blankly. She predicts things to be worse, but it turns out the things for her are much worse than she could ever predict. She believes that her beautiful dream is over, and she has to accept the reality which has always been cruel to her.

She looks down at her feet, and a tear drops down her cheeks. Kingsley places a hand on her shoulder to calm her down, but she slips his hand away. She finds her feet going in the opposite direction- away from Kingsley, away from the door, and the next she knows is that she is running- running away from them from all of this. Kingsley shouts her name, but she doesn't respond to him; she keeps running.

Janice asks herself has she fallen for him? But she doesn't get the answer. Only she finds is this empty feeling that always stays with her when everyone leaves.
