Long live the King

"*Sigh*" said Liam as he sighed and he rubbed his eyes, he had been in his office for the entire day, it was rather stressful, adjusting into the office of King, his transition was so stressful and so swift and quick that he did not have time to rest or breathe.

Which reminded him, he was yet to make his first public appearance as King, he had to prepare that, he was sure that the elders would take care of that very, very soon.

Everything was still so rushed, because there had not been in a new King in ages, and more specifically in 40 years, yes his father had reigned for forty years, he had become King at the age of thirty succeeding his own father's death.

"Forty years" said Liam to himself, that was such a long time to be on the throne, he could only wish that he could rain half as long as that, it was only the beginning of his journey and well he could not help but feel tired.

"Father, have you ever felt tired?" asked Liam to himself as he scoffed.

"What am I saying, of course you did" said Liam as he smiled, his father was a man just like anyone else, and of course he felt tired, it was only human to feel some not so good emotions sometimes.

"You may enter" said Liam as he snapped out of his thoughts as he heard a knock on the door.

"Long live the King" said Zechariah as he smiled and he entered Liam's office.

"Long Live the King" said Zuph as he smiled.

"Long Live the King" said Elihu and Luc as they smiled.

"Thank you all" said Liam as he smiled, he was happy to see them all.

"Please accept our condolences for your loss our King" said Zechariah as he smiled and he bowed his head.

"He was a great man" said Zechariah as the rest all bowed their heads along with him.

"Thank you all" said Liam as he smiled, his trusty men would never let him down, he trusted them with his life, and he was sure that they were going to serve him for as long as they lived, that was what they had pledged to him, and he was sure that their pledge had not changed at all.

"How is your first day as King?" asked Elihu as he raised his head and he smiled.

"Busy… very busy" replied Liam plainly as he smiled, but this was what his duties as King entailed, and the funny thing was that he did not even go to any official invitations, he had only stayed in his office all day.

"I can just imagine" said Zuph as he laughed.

"But I am sure that you will be alright, you are King Liam of Wyverdale after all" said Zechariah as he smiled.

"Well thank you Zechariah" said Liam as he smiled.

"Where is Mero?" asked Liam as he had not seen Mero all day since he had seen him early in the morning.

"Well we thought that he would be here already" said Luc as he spoke up.

"He did tell us that he needed to see you" said Luc.

"Hmm, that is odd" said Liam to himself as he seemed to be thinking.

"You may enter" said Liam as he heard another knock on his office door, it would seem that he was being visited today by many people.

"I see that you all are already here" said Mero as he walked into the room.

"Ahh Mero, we were just speaking about you" said Elihu as he looked at Mero and he laughed.

"We were just welcoming the new King over here" said Elihu as he laughed.

"Is that so?" asked Mero.

"Well in that case, you all also need to bring him your sacrifices, as Wyverdanian tradition suggests" said Mero.

"Has not that tradition ceased to exist?" asked Zuph.

"Just because there had not been a new King in forty years, does not mean that that tradition has ceased to exist" replied Mero plainly.

"That is unfair, I do not have the resources to bring forth an offering" said Elihu as the others agreed with him, it would not be an easy task to bring Liam an offering, they would end up having to hunt a wild roe or deer.

"Mero, stop pulling their legs" said Liam as he laughed at this display, they were already complaining when he had not said anything at all about them having to bring him an offering.

"You do not need to bring me an offering, I do not require it from any of you" said Liam.

"Thank you my King" said Elihu as he turned back to look at Mero as he looked very proud.

"Whatever you say" said Mero.

"In other news, the new supply of iron from the South has just arrived at the Castle" said Mero as that was what he had gone to check on before he came to Liam's office.

"That is good news" said Liam as one thing was already taken care of.

"I took the liberty of checking what was sent to us, and the South seems to be very fair with their dealings" said Mero.

"If they were not fair, then there would be another problem" said Liam as he smiled, it was best that they were being fair with their dealings, or else, that would be another problem for them, war would probably break out, and that would not be good at all.

"Things seem to be good now" said Mero.

"I would prefer it if they stayed that way" said Liam as he smiled, that was the truth, if only things could stay that way.

"It is dinner time, have you eaten yet?" asked Mero as he eyed Liam, he knew the answer, from the way Liam was looking, the answer was not a good one.

"I have not had time to" replied Liam simply.

"And why is that?" asked Mero.

"I have been too busy" replied Liam, that was the truth, he had many things to do, he truly was busy, his first day as King was filled with many, many things to do.

"In fact, I still have some work to do" said Liam as he smiled and he went back to looking through all the documents that he had on his desk.

"You do know that some point you will need to eat" said Mero.

"I am aware of that" replied Liam.

"As you wish" said Mero as he stayed quiet, he knew that Liam was not going to listen to him at all.

"My Queen… his Majesty asked me to inform you that he will be unable to join your for dinner this evening" said Nora as she looked at Wura.

"He sends his sincerest apologies" said Nora.

"That is alright Nora" said Wura as she forced a smile, why did she feel so bad, why did her heart ache so much?? Was she actually looking forward to seeing Liam?? She had not seen him the entire day, did she miss him??

"My Queen, are you alright?" asked Nora as she noticed that Wura did not look so good.

"I am alright Nora" said Wura as she replied and she looked down to face her food, it was better if she focused on what she was doing now, that was the only way she would be able to clear her mind and think straight.

"My Queen??" asked Nora as she did not think that Wura was alright at all.

"I will leave now my princess… if you need me my Queen, please call me" said Nora as she bowed her head and she walked away as she did not hear any reply, she thought that leaving Wura alone to think would be better, and she was sure that her presence was only upsetting Wura even more.

Wura sighed, just why was she overreacting?? Liam was not obliged to be with her every minute of the day, so it did not make sense at all for her to feel the way that she did, she could not understand, she could not, why did she feel this way?? Maybe it was because she and Liam had spent some time together in Cornwalk.

Then that meant that she had to forget everything that happened in Cornwalk, it was clear that he was too busy to care for anything and anyone besides his Kingdom, and Wura understood that, maybe this was for the best after all, in the end, just who was she?? She was no one important at all.

"It is for the best" said Wura to herself.

"It is for the best Wura" as she assured herself, she was trying to convince herself that it was for the best, in the end, they would end up with nothing but pain, so it would be best for some distance to indeed be put between them.
