A Petty Boss

Monday morning, Violet accompanied her dad going back to Mainland City. Her two bodyguards, Mike and Anthony, were left behind to protect her mom and grandma in case the droids attacked again.

The two men protested, but Violet explained that she was with her dad so she would be safe. Her dad has a bunch of International bodyguards following him around. No one would try to mess with him without a second thought.

Believing her valid reasons, both Mike and Anthony could not assert as the bodyguards she spoke of were their senior brothers at the Security Agency. These men are more experienced than them.

After boarding the aircraft without them, Violet curled her lips into a complacent smile. Soon the plane left, and she sent a text to Victor containing an instruction about where she will meet him in the city.

The matter about him hasn't been brought up to her dad yet, and that is what she would try to speak with her old man before they arrived in the city.

Violet glanced at her dad and his trusted Senior Assistant Roland, discussing crucial matters involving their investment in some countries. It looks like there are some problems in Las Vegas, and her dad has to head there soon.

Then it would mean that her mom would stay in Remy Town while her dad was out of the country. And as for her, she has to take care of the matters in their Mainland branch office.

Waiting for the two older men to finish their meeting, Violet waited patiently. Soon after, Senior Assistant Roland went back to his seat. Violet sees this as a perfect time to approach her dad.

It was her opportunity to bring up her plan to take Victor as her official bodyguard. After drawing her plan inside her head, Violet coughed, walked toward her dad, and sat across from him.

"Dad…"

"Hmm? What's wrong, honey?" Without looking up, Theo waited for his daughter to speak whatever was troubling her mind. He may not make it obvious, but he noticed that she often looked in his direction and seemed like she had something to discuss with him.

"Are you leaving for Las Vegas?" Violet queried.

Theo put down his Tab and looked at his daughter. He squeezed a slight smile on his lips, not hiding his reluctance to leave.

"I need to discuss some important matters with our business partners in Las Vegas. I needed to attend personally."

"It sounded crucial…." Although she had no interest in managing a corporation, she had enough knowledge of how CEOs run their business.

Similarly, she is a CEO herself back in Remy Town.

However, the matter in Las Vegas is far from excellent. The Shang Hotel and Casino earned well, but some problems occurred because a few business partners demanded more changes to the Casino. In contrast, the other board members opposed making further changes.

"I know you are worried about Mom," said Violet. "She needs you more than me. So, why don't you let me go there as your stand-in?"

Theo's face darkened upon listening to his daughter's suggestion. His eyes filled with worry as he pondered things. After learning about the assassination attack on Violet, he could not just sit idly and let his daughter go overseas without thorough planning for her safety.

"Honey, I could not imagine what your mom would feel if something happened to you."

"Dad, my bodyguards are competent. They could protect me well as long I geared them up with advanced weapons. Besides, I hired a new one. He saved me before the droid could grab me."

Violet smiled sweetly as she uttered the last two sentences.

Theo remained silent in his seat, scrutinizing her daughter.

After someone reported the attack incident during the storm, he immediately watched the CCTV footage. Indeed, he noticed an unfamiliar man helping his daughter fight the droids.

Now that Violet mentioned it, his mother-in-law's words are playing in his head. The older lady is actually not just talking nonsense. It was true that his daughter had an outsider man close to her.

And as a worried father, who is like a mother hen overprotective of its chicks, he is always vigilant to every man that wants to get close to his daughter.

Most especially now, the matter has become between life and death. He could not just entrust his daughter's life to anyone. He was working his ass off hard to provide for his family, and that's including they were well-protected.

Therefore, he needed a background check on this man, and he knew someone who could help him.

"Dad…" Violet became worried when her dad remained silent. She could see that he was thinking it over, but it made her anxious. Hence, she needed to persuade him further, which is what she must do. "Victor is a great guy, dad."

Theo raised a brow. Only once in a blue moon does Violet praise a man.

"Where did you meet this guy, honey?" After thinking it through, he should interrogate his daughter.

Violet bit her lower lip and forced a faint smile. She asked her dad, "Did you remember when I was kidnapped, and my abductor asked for a billion Euros for ransom, dad?"

Theo knitted his brows and tightened his jaw upon remembering that incident when Violet was in college.

"I still remember it perfectly, honey," Theo confirmed. He asked, "What about it?"

Violet saw her dad throwing a dagger look outside the window. The frown on his face deepened as she brought up the incident during her college years.

"The guy that helped me get out of the woods is Victor."

Theo was astounded. He asked, "Is it him? Then what is he doing here in M Country? The kidnap incident happened in Country D."

The incident happened six years ago.

'So they've met again. Is it fate? Or it's just a coincidence?' Theo mused inwardly, gazing out at his daughter with a profound look in his eyes.

As an experienced man, he knew better.

Now that she got her dad's full attention, Violet had the courage to continue convincing her old man.

"Well, Victor moved to Remy Town to live with his boyfriend. One day I came across him in the central town and recognized him." Violet quickly bit her lower lip after saying that and observed her dad's reaction.

Theo blinked his eyes. He wore a solemn expression, not to show any emotion that he was shocked.

Rather than being surprised, he is more drawn to the fact that his daughter allowed this Victor guy to get close to her. But some doubt would remain in his heart until he is done investigating this guy.

Victor may have saved his daughter back then, but the guy just disappeared into thin air after the rescue team located his daughter.

As a grateful father, he wanted to thank his daughter's savior and maybe reward him in any way he could. But he chose not to show himself.

"Where is he now, honey?"

"Victor is also headed in Mainland City, dad. I will introduce him to you later. So let him be my bodyguard, dad."

Theo curled his thin lips. Why does his daughter sound like he owes an enormous favor to this Victor guy, and he must not reject her request?

He knows how introverted his daughter is, but no one should underestimate how her brain works.

She is idle. But several big companies went bankrupt because of her.

"Alright. Let him go straight to my office."

Hearing that, Violet smiled, trying her best to conceal her grin. She chirped, "Thanks, dad!"

Violet smacked a kiss on her dad's cheek before she hurried back to her seat to get her phone and chatted with Victor. Theo shook his head, frowning.

'I haven't said yes, yet!' He just wanted to interview the guy. It doesn't mean he'll hire him immediately.

Theo heaves a sigh inwardly, helpless as he could not dishearten his daughter.

'Well, as long as she is happy.'

Somewhere in Williams Research Center Facility…

Allen waited for his assistant to pick up the video call. He frowned when the guy hadn't answered yet.

'Is he wishing to lose his bonus this month?'

Allen glanced at the clock on his computer screen. The deep on his brow sunken profoundly. After waiting for another ten minutes, Laney finally could answer.

Laney is bathing in a cold sweat on the other side of the video call. Before his boss could complain and start scolding him, he quickly opened his mouth and explained to him.

"I'm sorry, boss! I went to the rooftop to check the aircraft and prepare it for flight."

Allen narrowed his gaze, scrutinizing his assistant as he contemplated whether to scold or praise him. The latter is only his choice.

"Alright. The aircraft needs to be in good condition. Is she confirmed to come today?"

"Yes, sir! In fact, it took me a long time to come back as I first confirmed if Miss Shang was now in the city."

"Then?"

Laney pursed his lips. He could sense the anxiousness in his boss. "Miss Shang had just landed, sir."

"Great! You know what to do."

"Leave it to me, sir!"

Laney has complete confidence in himself, and that is what Allen needed. He ended the video call after he gave a few instructions to his assistant.

"Today is the day!" Allen picked up Keisha and lifted her in the air. "Are you excited to see your mom?"

The kitten found him weird. Keisha yawned and then ignored him. On the side, the nanny sniggered, but Allen bellowed at it, "Shut up, Randy. You better start working on what I instructed you."

The robot nanny fell silent. Heading to the door, he shook his head as he mumbled to himself...

[What a petty boss. How dare he implicates us in his scheme!?]
