Picked up Stones

Adrian was almost chock on his saliva when he heard his father. How could he woo a woman? His father knows he did not have time for a relationship. He practically has a lot of women around him.

"You don't have to be serious with her," Charles immediately commented when he saw his son's facial expression. "You just have to pretend."

"Think about it; if you can woo and marry her, all her shares are as good as yours. So why not just impress her with your skills.

You know girls love guys who are intelligent and handsome, and you are both," Charles explained to his son. He already realised that Iyare was not so easy to deal with.

Adrian thought about his father's words. He was right; Iyare should fall head over heels for a guy like him. A grin immediately formed on his lips.

"I love the plan,'' Adrian nodded in agreement. Charles smiled at his son. "You should; this is a good plan. Why did I not think of this from the beginning?" Charles asked himself.

"Don't worry, son, she is beautiful, just your kind of woman. So I am sure you will enjoy fooling her," Charles told his son.

"How do you intend to deal with Cece's situation?" Adrian changes the topic. He was confident that Cece's case was not a problem. After all, to him, she was just a maid. Someone who could pose no threat to his father. If not that someone had deliberately set his father up, he was sure that her death would have gone unnoticed.

Charles's face immediately pale hearing this question. He never took Cece seriously. For him, she was only useful for keeping his bed warm and carrying out his plans. He could never guess she would prepare life insurance. And she even got lucky for her Case to attract the detectives hungry for justice. What could he really do at this point?

Nothing, there was nothing he could do. This answer made him very angry. He could not remember the last time he had a problem that left him this helpless.

Now that he thought of it, Iyare must not find out he was responsible for her father's death. His other plans will be ruined; after all, which daughter will get involved with the son of the man who murdered her father and tried to murder her.

Charles immediately shared his thoughts and the present situation with his son. Adrian was surprised by this revelation. He believed that his father could quickly pay the officers in charge of the case to destroy the evidence against him and close the issue soon. He could not believe that there was someone in the world who did not have a price. Someone who only wanted justice. How is that even possible? He questioned himself. He has always believed that everyone had a price; with the right price, anybody could be bought over.

So hearing about a team of moral detectives was a shock to him. Adrian kept quiet and thought about the situation. "You will have to go to prison," Adrian said after thinking about it for some minutes.

"Are you out of your mind?" Charles shouted when he heard his son.

"No, Dad, that's the best option for now. Ask your senator friend if the death of Mr Onasa could be kept a secret. You will plead guilty to both crimes and go to jail. I am sure your punishment will be reduced for admitting your crimes. At least instead of a death sentence, you will get life imprisonment,"

"Doug and the Criminal department only care about justice. So as far as you are going to jail for the Crime, I am sure the senator will be able to convince them to keep the part of Mr Onasa 's death a secret. It is either this, or you become a fugitive," Adrian explained.

Charles kept quiet and thought about his son's words. His son's idea seemed quilt good to him. After all, once his son gains control of Ona's group and more connections. It will be easy-breezy to get him out of jail.

With this in mind, he agreed with his son's plans and immediately called the Senator's friend for help. The senator agreed to help.

Thirty minutes later, the senator arranged everything, and Charles turned himself in. He was quilt satisfied with this plan. Especially since they also used the senator's connection to buy protection for Charles in prison.

After settling everything, the senator felt very happy with the great connection he had just created. Having someone like Charles as his backing will be instrumental. Of course, the senator only thought this way because of his assumptions that Adrian would be the one talking over Ona's group.

He almost had a heart attack when he saw the news a few minutes later about Iyare.

Ah! he must have used up all his good luck. How did he manage to side with the wrong team? The senator understood the concept of money and power in business and politics. No matter how much the masses supported him, without the right backing losing the next election was as simple as counting numbers. Why did I not do a personal investigation but follow the rumour blindly? He asked himself.

'How foolish,' he cursed himself. He picked up stones this time and abandoned the natural diamond. He thought of leaking the news about Mr Onasa's death to Iyare, but he later decided against it. He should not act impulsively.

Maybe Charles and his son had a way to get back the company. After all, everyone knows that Charles owns the second largest share of Ona's group. Nobody knew that this was just ten percent. He will hold on to this piece of information and use it when the need arises. The senator comforted himself.

He then calls his personal assistant to investigate everything about Iyare and have it on his desk the following day.

Who would have thought that Mr Onasa was such a cunning man, hiding his daughter for years, the senator muttered to himself.

He also planned to keep a close eye on Iyare, as he wanted to know if she was as brilliant as her late father. He let out another curse for foolishly spending so much to help Charles. Now that he thought about it, the father and son were desperate.

How could a Ceo of an organisation as large as the Ona group watch the Roy group release sure disturbing News about him and yet do nothing about it? He wondered why he did not properly analyse the situation before getting involved. A sigh escaped his lips when he thought of his impulsive decision.

.....

Iyare was sitting in her office, oblivious of Charles's new plan. Peter had just arrived at her office and informed her about his visit to the police station. Of course, Peter was not aware of Charles's plan either. He was waiting for the police to release an official statement about Charles being involved with Cece and his late boss.

Iyare was somehow disappointing by this news. She plans to use the piece of information to get Charles' shares. She was going to ask him to sign his share in exchange for not charging him to court for her father's death.

She never thought Cece had such life insurance plans. Well, the woman was wise. She had to give Cece that. Now she has to look for another way to get Charles's shares without spending a dime.

She was going to destroy Charles little by little. Now that his reputation was damaged, her job was relatively easy. But she knew she needed the perfect plan. Pride and overconfidence would cause her fall. So she decided to sit and wait for Charles's next move.

She was certain that prison was too small a setback to stop someone like Charles from scheming. She could not guess his next plan, but she knew she needed to be more careful.

She spent the rest of her day familiarising herself with the company, with Shelley as her guide.
