By now, it was fairly obvious who held the most power in Sixphen. The twins might be the rulers, but whatever deity they worshipped—presumably Bala—had immense influence over the nation. 

Something serious had to have happened between her and Sphinx for things to be so confusing.

"You say I should be careful not to come in contact with them, but isn't that more likely with me being here?" I asked him, watching his face for an answer. 

He immediately shook his head, a little calm. "They went out to the city and won't be back till tomorrow. And they keep to their word."

He seemed too trusting of his family members, which was entirely a bad thing but I was still wary.

At that, what if I went to see Paloma before Slin's mother? I wonder how she would seem through my eyes. 

And I was sure she was as well curious as to why I initially wanted to meet up with her.
