Ito's POV

Ito has been with Pel all his life and performed the duty of a personal system. His existence had always been a mystery and since no one was asking such a question then being curious was of no use. With life going well with no difficulty he never thought of himself as more.

Ever since they both arrived on Earth he knew that he was somehow attuned with this unidentified substance but how could that be possible, earth was an undiscovered planet on probably another side of the galaxy.

The unidentified substance was then found to be called mana and the information he could collect about this mana was not to his satisfaction.

There were many vague explanations but the most frequently the birth of magic another concept he knew little about.

Although subtly, he absorbed the mana around but with no apparent change he stopped thinking of the issue...until three days ago.

When they found Crista, like an inborn intellect he knew she could help him evolve...but evolve into what? He was curious.

No system had ever evolved before on Nodard and if there was he would have known at least.

After his evolution, a whole new world was opened to him as he explored his new function but what surprised him was the restrictions on how much he could say to his host.

Each restriction could be opened only when the host grew to a certain power level and this power level couldn't be decided carelessly, he had the option to issue quests but he didn't consider the option yet.

There was nothing like this before the evolution. He could always answer Pel's question to the most of his ability but now he had to goal back.

He also noticed that he did not have to get used to his new self at all it was like this was how things were meant to be...which made him curious, what were they supposed to be.

What is a system?

His curiosity only caused him discomfort but he couldn't ask his host since the latter's knowledge about systems was probably more scarce than his.

Then he heard Crista say she had read books about characters having systems which added to his list of unanswered questions.

How can such a planet know so much about systems when Kerki had no idea systems could evolve in the first place?

With Crista's description, he downloaded similar books and decided to find out what these aliens knew about the system.

As he read he discovered a lot and could not help but be surprised that most of his questions were answered but these answered questions gave birth to new ones.

His finding was not much but they helped. For instance, he found out that every system was unique which brought up the question of what kind of system was he.

Again unlike his case with Pel, most of the systems appeared later when the host was desperate. Crowning all the events as desperate was a bit extreme but most systems either appeared at the host's death or when they had lost all hope.

So another question aroused. How come Kerki have systems when they are born?

The questions kept piling up with no answer in sight but if he did not focus on the large number of questions he had he gained a lot as well.

As a beginner, he studied the ways these systems acted with their host and decided to implement the useful.

As it turned out he could continue to evolve as his host grew stronger, the relationship between the system and the host was symbiotic so to have his questions answered Pel would play a role as well.

Whenever he got a chance he read more stories under the system genre and became a fan of the particular writing style of some authors.

Following what was portrayed in the novels, systems were supposed to be rare entities with unknown origins.

Some did try to give background to the systems which Ito felt was unnecessary since most of this background didn't really make sense.

He even read one that claimed the system was a creation of a human. Intelligent or not, Ito didn't believe the human race had enough resources to create something like a system...even Kerki wouldn't brag about such a thing so books with such absurd imagination received more than just a bad review from Ito.

Returning to the scarcity of systems portrayed by many authors, Ito couldn't understand where such a belief came from...but since they already knew so much about the existence of systems then there must be a truth in such a claim.

Meanwhile, on another side of earth, a young boy of about 12 years walked around in his odd robes. His features made him look harmless and anyone would want to rub his chubby cheeks.

With a smile, he walked around trying out different foods with an elated expression. The surrounding did not seem to be affected by the mana surge one bit.

One could see kids playing and women cheating happily.

The cute face of the boy suddenly changed and he stopped eating with widened eyes.

"Have I been found...that shouldn't be possible"
