As caring as a brother

WARNING: NEW POV!

Aiden would never choose me for a Beta position if I wouldn't be so good at sensing people's mood changes. I remember he even tested me for a long few months until I gave him an exact report of his mood changes over the past month. He was satisfied with the result and honored me with his trust. He's not as easy to trust people as someone can think.

Letty is the opposite. It's hard to catch the mood changes, and this can be explained by her perfect self-control. Yes, you can sometimes read her mood on her face, but you can never guess what mood she'll have in a second. She's not as easy to read as other girls. Probably, it is also the influence of her father. He was good at covering his emotions and mood changes from his surrounding.

No one could guess what he'll come up to in a second.

"Are you okay?" I asked, then put my hand on her shoulder, "Of course, you're not forced to go there. Wait, I'll get you a taxi."

"I'm fine," she lied, and hugged her shoulders, "Yes, please."

I smelled her lying, but I wasn't able to say anything to her lying to me, and that's not about her status. I just don't want to bother her and impose my help when she doesn't ask for it. So, I just took my phone out, called a taxi, asked where to come, and looked around. There was no sign of that girl for whom those two idiots were fighting. I sighed and looked at Letty.

"What do you think we should do with them?" I asked for her advice, trying to ease the tension that suddenly hit us. She shrugged, unsure if she should say it or not.

"I would set them free, but be sure for them to pay for not telling about the duel. And definitely, would tell Aiden. Maybe, I would make someone look for where they live or ask someone to follow them," she told her opinion and looked at the approaching yellow taxi cab.

"That's a good idea," I smiled at her, opened a door, said to the driver where to go, and even paid. When the yellow cab disappeared, I turned to three guys standing behind my back and waiting for any command. However, there were two of them instead of three. I couldn't find Aaron.

In a second, I remembered how he was looking at Letty all the evening, and how he got close to her when I wasn't near. It made me frown.

"Where's Aaron?" I asked, looking around. My heart started beating faster. What if he followed a yellow cab to get Letty? What if he will harm her?

But why?

My reactions were faster than my thoughts. I whistled loudly, attracting the attention of the crowd down at the beach. They immediately started climbing up to me, when I untied two guys and asked Adam to follow them straight to their house. When they ran away, I looked at the crowd.

"Had anyone of you seen Aaron after he climbed the hill with us?"

"No, he was up with you all the time," said Mike, coming closer to me, "What happened?"

"He disappeared right after I sent Letty to the hotel," I explained and took out my phone when Mike stopped me.

"So what? He's from another pack, he can go wherever he wants," he said, and I look up at him.

"He was looking at Letty all the evening and got too close to her when I was busy with those duelers. What if he's not from Victor's Pack, and those duelers were here to distract me? What if they came here to get Letty? We don't know how many strangers are here and if they are only in the forbidden forest!" I felt my own heart bouncing in my body, threatening to jump out of my chest. I can't allow someone to get my Alpha's mate and step on their path of happiness. They suffered too much to be broken again.

"Search everywhere but find him!" I chose Aiden's number and called him immediately, hoping they came back from the forest. He should know who's Aaron and if he's from Victor's pack or not. Moreover, he can reach Letty in no time if needed.

The road from the beach to the hotel was fast and safe, or I was just too concentrated on overthinking about Aaron looking at me all evening. Only now, after scrolling in my head everything that was going on around me at the beach, I noticed he was always close to me, looking at me all the time he had an opportunity. Moreover, he tried to stay away from William, but when Beta called him to come with us and check the hill, he did it eagerly. Why? What made him hide from William before and go with us to the hill so close to him after?

What if he came with us because he knew there up on the hill will be someone distracting William's attention? If yes, those duelers were sent here specifically for Aaron to get closer to me, but why?

"We arrived," the taxi driver said, making me jump.

{What if he claimed me?}

I ran out of the taxi cad straight to my room, stripped off, and looked all over my body. Thanks to Moon God, there were no marks visible on my body, so I sighed, grabbed my clothes, and went to the shower, after closing the door on the key. I wasn't sure the key would stop someone from entering my room if needed, but at least I wouldn't be caught naked.

The hot shower and steam made me relax and forget everything bad running through my head. I wrapped my body in a towel, got out of the shower, and looked throughout the room. I'm becoming paranoid if I'm checking if someone got to my room while I was in the shower. However…

{Better safe than sorry.}

I went to the kitchen and turned the kettle on to boil water for tea, then went to the bedroom and changed into pajamas. Then, I got back to the kitchen, made some tea, then gave up and grabbed my phone, calling Aiden.

Unfortunately, he was busy talking with someone, so I turned off and sat on the chair, thinking. Maybe Aaron is one of those strangers that are living on my father's territory? But how can it be, if he said he's from Victor's Pack? Moreover, William seems to have the same information, as he was relaxed while Aaron was around. He didn't have any doubts about him, but…

My phone rang, making me jump. It was Aiden. His voice was worried, and he was breathing frequently.

"Letty, close all the doors and windows and wait for me in the hotel room! Pack your things!"

"Aiden, what's going on?" I asked, feeling my heart bouncing in my chest.

"Aaron's body was found dead not far away from the beach where the party was! He was dead before the party started, so who that guy was who called himself Aaron, is someone we don't know. I'm taking you to the Pack, where you'll be safe!" I heard the sound of a car roaring, so Aiden was probably driving a car to the hotel to get me. And his frequent breath meant he ran from somewhere to get the car.

"What? Dead?" I felt my phone drop from my hand and fell to the table. It hit the cup of tea, so it broke and spill onto the table. I got the phone out before it will get wet, then pressed it to my ear and ran to the corridor. I barricaded the door with some heavy things, still talking with Aiden. "How can it happen?"

"Letty, there are more of those strangers than we thought. You're in danger until you don't have my mark. And, I'm not sure if you'll get it, you'll be safe," he said, making my whole body tremble.

"Why?" my voice was trembling too.

"They know you're my mate, but it hasn't stopped them from getting close to you. I can't be sure they won't challenge me to a duel to be able to get you," his voice was as worried as mine. I sat on the floor in the corridor and pressed my back to the wall.

"What should we do?" tears were falling down my cheeks.

"Fight!" his voice made me woke up. I jump from the floor, ran to the bedroom, and staring packing my small belongings into the backpack and baggage bags I had with me. Aiden broke the call, probably accidentally, but somehow it told me that he was coming closer, and I need to hurry up with packing.

Suddenly, I heard the knock at the door and my heart fell to my feet. My body became paralyzed from fear and I froze in my place, being unable to move. What, if it's not Aiden? How can I be sure I can safely open the door?

Moreover, what should I do if that's really not Aiden, but Aaron?

Am I strong enough to protect myself?
