I was bored.
I have done everything l could do to keep myself occupied; homework, video games, internet surfing, playing my guitar, everything! But alas, I was still bored. So bored, that I resorted to texting Leo.
Me:
"Entertain me."
It took him a few minutes to reply, but when he did, I did not regret my decision.
Ryuu:
"I'd tell you a joke about unemployed people, but none of them are working."
Me:
"Jokes, eh? Do continue."
Ryuu:
"Gotta look up some more. Give me a sec."
Chuckling, I let my phone flop out of my hand and onto the bed that I was currently spread out on. Just then, Leo texted back.
Ryuu:
"NeverMind. I'm feeling lazy."
Me:
"Noooo!! Ryuu…don't abandon me!!"
Ryuu:
"How about I call you?"
Me:
"Uhh…no."
Ryuu:
"Why not?? I liked talking to you."
My heart was hammering so hard against my chest I was half expecting it to rip right out and start doing a happy dance. Has he always been this open? I thought back to all his conversations that l ever overheard or eavesdropped on. The answer was, yes. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but it was dangerous for sure. Maybe not to anybody else, but to me it was. My heart could only take so much after all.
Before I could come up with an excuse, he sent another text.
Ryuu:
"Did you not like that I called?"
I felt like a cornered animal. I started typing in a reply, but once again, he sent another one.
Ryuu:
"Aw, hell. You didn't."
Ryuu:
"ľ'm so sorry, Eleanor. I didn't even consider how you might've felt about me calling."
Ryuu:
"Oh man, I feel so bad now…"
So not fair.
He was fighting dirty, setting up traps whether he knew it or not, and I couldn't help but fall for it. Biting down on my bottom lip, I erased the words I have typed in, and with shaking hands, put together a different reply.
Me:
"You can call me."
Me:
"*Me, dang!!?"
