Chapter four

Serena stood on the balcony. She watched keenly as the guests made their way into the house. Her eyes searched among the crowd, shocked her heart skittered with anger seeing all the people who conspired to get her killed carrying gifts for her.

Her lip curled up into a devilish smirk. The thought of all the lives that owed her their happiness gave her goosebumps. Like the devil, she was going to collect on her debts.

Her eyes halted on a black sports car that had just arrived. The man who got off the car had a cold and indifferent aura around him. He was tall and well build with a domineering aura in him.

His black hair was neatly combed. His hands to his front carrying a well-wrapped gift. He took steady strides towards the house unfazed by the attention he received from other guests.

Whispers and murmurs surrounded him as the guests were shocked to see him at the party. Serena's eyes glowed upon seeing him. In her last moment before being reborn, an unknown force had shown her just how true his love for her was.

She couldn't recall if previously he had come to her party. She had spent that time with her best friend and boyfriend to care who had come to wish her. She didn't even stay till the end of her party back then as her boyfriend convinced her to go for a ride.

Her life had revolved around her boyfriend's every word and then he became her husband. By then she had become a loyal servant who worshipped the ground that he walked on.

His word was a law that she obeyed without questioning it. She had never had an ounce of doubt about his love, he was the perfect boyfriend and husband until that faithful day when he got everything that he wanted from her.

Then he treated her no worse than a slave. She had tried her best to try and fix their relationship thinking that she had made a mistake that angered him. Not knowing that the only mistake she made was handing her company over to him.

For two years she endured a lot of pain and suffering from her husband until he finally ended her life. Since he couldn't divorce her without giving her company and houses back, he chose to kill her so that he remained the owner of everything.

It was truly sad.

She had left behind all those who cared for her for a man who didn't know her value. Her best also kept feeding ideas into her head that she couldn't see past both of their lies until the end.

Serena wiped the tears that had streamed down her cheeks. The pain of yesterday still hurt her to recall. Five years of her life were wasted and thrown away due to her blind faith in a love that was not real.

The perfect lie as said is an illusion that we want to believe as truth. The same went for her, she wanted so badly the perfect relationship that she forgot that life isn't perfect.

And that when the deal is too good one needed to think twice about it. She was foolish and she suffered for it, the wound in her heart would heal with time but the scar would forever remain to remind her not to make the same mistake again.

She stood still as she heard footsteps approaching her. The perfume in the air told her that it was her best friend that had arrived.

Now that she thought about it, that was the same perfume that her husband loved to wear. She inwardly sneered. She was so blind to see the signs that we were right before her eyes.

Two years of being in a relationship with him and another five being married to him. And she failed to recognize the real him.

"Sese," her cheerful friend let out while giving her a big hug from the back. "Happy birthday bestie," she screamed in Serena's ear.

Serena remained calm. Had it been before, she would have stupidly embraced her friend and jumped around with her like a fool. She inhaled deeply and exhaled to refrain from tearing the fake friend to pieces there and then.

"Thank you, Marga" she replied softly.

She removed her friend's hands from her waist and turned around to meet her gaze. Another fake smile that she had fallen a victim to. The fake happiness in her friend's eyes and voice made her believe that she cared.

She was disgusted by just looking at her. "What is wrong Sese?" Marga inquired sensing the cold temperament of her friend.

Serena shrugged without giving her a proper answer. She was too tired to make up lies, her time was coming soon, and the lesson that she had in store for her. Would ensure her doom with no open door for her to escape.

"The party has begun, I will go down and meet the guests," Serena excused herself.

Her lungs could no longer stand the smell of that cologne. It was too much, the scent she always found comfort in, that calmed her down when she was going through a bad phase was now suffocating.

Now, it made her stomach turn in an uncomfortable way. And she hated it.

"Wait up," Marga said catching up to her. She hooked her hand around Serena's arm and walked alongside her.

'Hold on to me right now Marga. Because by the time that I am done with you, you will yearn for a hand to hold,' she thought an evil glint flashing in her eyes.

She forced a smile on her face for her friend as they made their way to her party. She had plans for the night and before her party is over at least a few people would have tears in their eyes.

It was her night, everyone else was there only for her and that proved the perfect opportunity to start getting even with everyone who dared to cross her.

"Alexander," Marga called out joyfully. It forced Serena to look up to spot the young man the girl called out to.

'Hello, ex-husband,' Serena greeted in her head.
