Chapter eleven

Serena wiped her tears with the back of her hands and stood up, she turned around wearing a calm emotionless face.

Her eyes froze in shock noticing the young man in her room. She stumbled back feet before composing herself.

She had no idea that he had attended her birthday party in the past, but in her defense, she had not noticed close to everyone that came to her party then. The only person she was allowed to see was her ex-boyfriend.

"Ja...Jax Easton," she let out nervously.

The man was from a third family. The third most powerful family in the country, known for his ruthlessness in business and charm when in the presence of women, yet he was still a bachelor.

"My reputation precedes me, I see," he muttered silently.

He reached out his hand and took Serena's hand into his, without warning he pulled her to the dressing table and made her take a seat.

Serena glanced at her reflection in the mirror and was stunned to see her makeup ruined.

Jax took some wet wipes and cleaned her face gently. Serena froze, she didn't expect him to take care of her, they weren't even acquainted yet.

Yet, she remained still and let him take care of her. She had spent the last life running around taking care of other people. It felt nice to be taken off for once, to feel like royalty.

She closed her eyes, she started to imagine what her life would have been like had she not run into Marga. She would never have met Alex and been fooled into marrying him, she wouldn't have ignored all the doors that were opened to her.

Despite being in the presence of a stranger, she was comfortable and felt safe. Jax gave her that feeling, even though she didn't know why. He felt familiar with her.

Regret filled her heart, she had limited herself to one man, one star when she could have had the whole sky at her feet.

It made her feel stupid and careless, with the second chance. She had started on her way to get herself all the stars in the sky. She deserved it.

"As beautiful as the moon," she heard a Jax's voice drop a notch above a whisper and snapped out of her thoughts and stared at him.

Her eyes peered to the mirror where she caught sight of her reflection. The man had given her a makeup, no-makeup look.

It was simplicity at its finest, highlighting her beauty without giving credit to the makeup he applied to her face.

Serena's mouth dropped. Never in her life did she imagine she would get a makeover from the country's second prince. And come out looking better than she had ever seen herself.

"Thank you," she uttered not looking away from the mirror.

"I was only bringing out the beauty that already exists in you," he let out trying to be nice.

Serena raised her eyes from the mirror to the man who made the magic happen, a bouquet of hyacinths was presented before her.

"Happy birthday Snow," he spoke out flashing his brightest smile.

Serena could barely believe it, it clicked in her mind why she found his presence familiar.

"Wa..Ward boy?" she asked more than said.

"I believe you mean Charming," Jax corrected and smiled at her.

Dressed in the finest suit was someone that Serena never thought she would see again, or ever expect to have the honor of being in the same room with ever again. Not since she was ten.

Jax exudes the charm and grace of a prince as he did when they were kids.

"How could I forget your highness," she let out with a playful curtsy.

Jax sweeps Serena into his arms and embraces her in a hug, "You've grown up my sweet snow white," he whispered to her.

Serena wrapped her hands around him, of all the surprises she received that night, Jax was the best of them all. It was the second-best birthday gift ever.

"Although my dearest snow has hurt me a lot," he told.

"In what way did this humble princess offend you?" she asked breaking the hug.

"She choose another prince," Jax said with a pout.

Serena smiled, she playfully pinched his cheek. "I held on as long as I could but Charming came late to the ball," she joked.

They both broke into laughter, and Serena felt her heart-lifting. The day was turning out to be more perfect than she expected it to go.

She got her inheritance, the man of her dreams, her parents, and now her long-lost friend.

"That's because Charming just landed into the country..." Jax started to say and froze while staring at the door.

Serena followed his line of sight to the door, Damian stood under the bulb, his cold eyes glimmering like gold. his aura was dangerous as he sent Jax a dark look as if ready to incinerate him.

Jax broke the hug but didn't move from his place. "It was nice to see you, Snow," he said.

He pecked Serena's cheek, handing her the flowers, he made his way to the door. He held Damian's eyes.

"Damian," he called out as though they were friends and hugged him. "Im walking away not because I'm afraid of you, it's because you make her happy. But when you break her heart just know that you'll have to deal with it," he whispered to him.

"The day that happens, I will take her away from you forever," he added and broke free from Damain and walked around him out of the room and going away.

Damian clenched his hand into a fist and slowly walked into the room. The threat from Jax offended him and made him afraid.

Serena was someone he was still trying to figure out, having someone always watching his every move waiting for them to slip up so that they could take her from him wasn't something he expected.

He had waited for her for too long to let someone else take Serena from him. 'I will just have to make certain that im is irreplaceable,' he thought and stopped before Serena.

"How do you know Jax Easton?" he asked biting back the question that he was dying to ask. The question about how close the two of them were, he noticed Jax called her Snow instead of using her name.

"It's a long story," Serena said and straightened her dress, she shrugged the topic casually unaware of how jealous Damian was growing.

"We have the rest of our lives," he whispered in a rich smoky voice.

Serena shivered. She twirled around and gazed deep into his eyes, they were darkened with desire.

"Only if you put a ring on me tonight," she teased.
