Chapter ten

Serena looked up to Damian, her heart pounding in her chest causing her to be nervous. All of her waited to hear his reply to her question.

"Say the word and I will call all this off if it is what you want," she confessed to him.

Deep down she hoped that he would not say no to her. That he would take her hand and tell her how much he longed for her to be his.

From the side of her eyes, she could see Sofia, Marga, and Alex holding their breaths. She didn't read their minds to tell what they were thinking about.

Marga and Alex desperately wanted Damian to turn her down so that they could proceed with their plans to destroy her. While Sofia wished it so that she could have Damian to herself.

"S-so...what do you s-say?" Serena inquired her eyes darting to th man before her hoping to get him to talk.

Damian stared down at her, he could see her confidence wavering, she was getting nervous with every second that he remained silent.

He kept silent, his eyes darkening with desire for the woman before him. She had just come of age and already she was playing dangerous games with him.

"Do you even understand how dangerous the fire you are playing with is?" he questioned her.

Serena's lips curled up into a smirk. Without realizing it Damian had opened a floor for her to show her enemies a side of her that they had never seen before. All the while having the chance to prove herself to Damian.

"I am not afraid of being burned," she said her voice audible to the three watching them." As the saying goes, fire is a good servant but a bad master. I have no intentions of being overwhelmed by it but rather to control it," she uttered in a soft yet uniquely cold voice that made Damian shiver.

Damian leaned closer to her, his lips being a breath away from Serena. She was making him lose control.

"If I am to be surrounded by fire, it's only because I started it," Serena went on to say. "I want to watch the world burn, except you and my dear ones," she said in a challenging manner.

Damian could hear the blood pumping in his veins as he was engulfed in th adrenaline of being in such proximity to the tempting beauty before him.

"Why now?" he asked his voice hoarse and croaky.

"The right question would be why not now?" Serena rephrased his question forcing Damian to draw a deep breath. "The answer to your question is simple, I am tired of leeches and I intend to get rid of every single one of them from my life and with the available space, fill it with deserving allies," Serena dared to say.

This time she averted her eyes from Damian and looked to the corner where the three stood.

"One by one, I will destroy everything that ever dared to have ulterior motives for coming close to me," she stated coldly.

Damian followed her line of sight and caught sight of three retreating figures, he wasn't able to see who they are but they made his blood boil.

He was conflicted on whether he should be thankful to them for pushing Serena in his direction, or angry that for a moment they drew her attention from him.

"I would love to stay and talk but I must excuse myself," Serena said apologetically and withdrew from Damian.

She had everyone where she wanted them and it was time to add fuel to the fire. The flame of her revenge had been lit and she need only fuel it further to achieve the desired burn on her enemies.

Damian watched her disappear around the corner confused. The intensity in Serena's eyes when she spoke made his throat run dry. Every word she spoke seemed calculated, intended for ears that weren't only his.

All night, he had been trying to figure out what had changed in his cute little angel but he saw enough to know that something had darkened her wings. And awakened something in her that made him shudder.

He leaned against the wall recalling the words that the girl spoke to him, he felt the sincerity of her words and it made his heart flutter and his eyes darken with desire for her.

For a while he had felt his heart slide in her direction, it would waver in her presence hoping she would spare him a glance but she never did. She always looked at her boyfriend as though he was her better half and he always wished it was him Serena stared at him like that.

It was getting harder to contain the emotions that surged through him for her. Now that she glanced at him like he was the missing piece that would complete her, he couldn't speak.

The words were at his fingertips but he could not bring himself to tell her, somehow he could see in her eyes that she knew exactly how she felt.

"I thought that I had figured you out Sese, yet it seems there is more of you I have yet to see," he whispered while deep in thought.

Serena stepped into her room, her heart still pounding loudly in her chest. The things she felt were real, not forced or manipulated. For the first time, she felt what love truly was.

Tears filled her eyes as she thought back to the moment she had with Damian, moments she had missed out on in her first life, her second chance provided an opportunity for her to feel her heart thunder for someone.

She wasn't sure who to thank for her second chance but she was grateful. Not just for the chance to avenge her death but for the chance to find true love.

Caught in the moment she failed to register the footsteps that approached her. The joy and the chaos of her life were mesmerizing to her.

"I find it wrong for a lady to cry alone," she heard a strange voice utter behind her.
