'These vows are the promises and a meaningful commitment that I am making'
Evelyn secretly smiled at herself as she slowly looked up, glancing at the handsome man who was soon going to be her husband. Their eyes embraced each other and smiles were exchanged. Eve was tensed throughout her vows; her stomach was sinking and felt as if there was a strong knot in her stomach. It was unsettling and didn't go away, no matter how hard she tried to ignore it.
She brushed it off, calling this feeling just nervousness, as a day like this is the most important day for a woman. She had fantasized about this day thousands of times after being in a relationship with John and she imagined her wedding inside her head over and over for the past couple of weeks. That was how desperate she was.
Her cheeks grew red as she looked into the eyes of the man in front of her. She recalled how they clashed at the university. All those delightful memories they had built together when they worked in a small cafe played inside her head like a movie.
In her early twenties, Evelyn Amber was so done with her family and family business. She was never the one to adore violence. After her grandmother passed away because of this so-called 'important' business, she realized how their family was not normal and could never be; they had too many enemies and always had to walk around with a bunch of guards.
She valued her privacy but as the daughter of an influential gang; she required a lot of security guards to surround her every day 24/7. She loathed her life more and more, but what she didn't understand was this was all for her own good.
She was stupid but desperate. After running away from home to complete her degree. There she met the love of her life, John, who kept her happy more than anyone.
John Alves had been Evelyn's boyfriend for the past three years. They had cherished each other with all of their heart; they were like the same soul with a different body; a wonderful match made in paradise.
On her graduation day, he proposed to her in the most romantic way in the history of proposals. She was touched to the core, that she yelled 'yes' 'yes' 'yes' over and over while jumping up and down.

This was the day Evelyn waited for the most. As the daughter of a rich family, the wedding was glorious. They covered every corner with flowers, a beautiful chocolate fountain was in the middle of the ballroom, every guest was busy admiring the delicacy and kids were gawking at the fountain. All of their business partners had shown up at this wedding and there was no surveillance and weapons like Eve preferred.
Untimely the priest asked Eve, "Evelyn Amber Hills, do you take John Alves to be your husband, To have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish always?"
Eve gulped down her agitation before responding. This was the moment she was constantly waiting for. "Yes, I do," she sealed the vows.
The priest then looked at John."Mr. John Alves, do you take Evelyn Amber Hills to be your wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish always?"
An evil smirk left his mouth that Eve had never witnessed before. Her eyes widened as he placed a gun on top of her head. "How was my acting, love?"
All the guests stood up from their chairs. Eve's dad was stunned, and he took out his gun as his involuntary actions came into the display. "Put the gun down John!" He threatened and pointed the gun at John but it didn't seem to work. John was fearless as if he knew her father wouldn't take the risk.
"Let's see whose gun is faster, shall we?" he grinned while pulling the trigger from his gun.
Eve was too stunned to do anything or even speak. Tears started making her vision fuzzy. "T-This is a joke… right?" She couldn't believe her eyes.
Everything came back to her in waves. She thought John was the sweetest guy who didn't like violence as well, but right now, she was looking at something completely out of the ordinary.
John's people had surrounded the whole area. No one could flee.
Her brother and father were losing it; they cherished Eve more than their life and wanted to protect her at all costs, but right now they didn't know how to react with just 1 gun with 6 bullets and no security; this was their end.
"Son," called out the father. "Whole life. Eve couldn't live the life she wished, so right now, please, do as I say," he requested.
He wanted to deny it because somehow he knew what he was going to ask, but he nodded while holding back a lot of tears.
"I will kill everyone that gets in the way. Please jump out of the window with Eve." His eyes got reddish and a nostalgic tone left his mouth.
"Okay, father, just remember I love you." Those three words had never got out of his lips hearing that father burst into tears. "NOW!" he yelled and started shooting at John's people while his tears rolled down his cheeks.
While John got distracted, he quickly grabbed Eve and jumped out of this window. His hands had tightly hugged her struggling to cover her from any harm. She landed on his brother's back while he was panting due to the heavy pain.
"Oww…" Eve let out a whine while her brother grunted in pain. It hurt more than he guessed.
"Are you okay?" he caressed Eve's hair comforting her while he was in more pain than ever."If something happened to me… Just know that I was always there for you, and always will be. You're not alone, okay?"
Eve couldn't help but hug her brother and let out her tears at that very moment. "I am sorry!" she screamed because she thought, if only she hadn't been stubborn about the security this would have never happened.
"Eve!" Just after a milli-second, her brother turned sides of them, so that his back turned towards the window they jumped from. It happened quickly that Eve couldn't react to what he was doing. Right at that moment, John shot twice at Eve thinking to kill Eve, but it wasn't her life that cost her, but her brother's. He saved her.
"Brother… No!" she whimpered. Blood was gushing out. Eve's white dress turned red due to all the blood. He suddenly became so heavy that Eve involuntarily kept him on the floor. Her petite fingers, the ground, and everywhere she saw was blood.
She felt as if the entire world was falling apart. The people she trusted… were no longer who she assumed they were. The people she loved… were no longer alive.
Through her sobs, she heard a trigger going off and a scream from what he thought was her father's.
Her eyes widened, everyone was dying one by one. Is this the end? Please take me with you, tears kept flowing from her eyes.
"I- " she was shot from behind. Turning back, she saw her best friend, Amelia grinning from ear to ear. Amelia was her best friend since middle school and someone who was overly joyed because of how 'dreamy' Eve's whole wedding is. Pure betrayal.
With the immense pain, she clutched where it hurts. she wanted to scream due to the ache but her entire body gave up. She fell to the floor completely welcoming her fate.
"How lucky you are to die with your whole family! Oh my God! I'm so jealous!" Amelia smiled evilly while Eve's tears slowly touched the ground.
