007-A mission in Deathcanyon
Almost 10 years after Jake arrived at Deathcanyon. Jake's time serving in the Humanity Army was about to come to an end. Jake had made war mates these past few years. People like him wronged or falsely accused by the royal family of the Eyozosha empire. What these people had in common with Jake in addition to being a victim of the royal family of the Eyozosha empire is that they were all sent directly to Deathcanyon as soon as they joined the Humanity Army. They weren't transferred anywhere else in the Humanity Army during the time they served their sentence and above all they had a deep grudge against Daisy because they were all targets of her schemes and it was mainly because of her that they ended up in this very hell.
In the past years Jake had learned that Daisy had taken over much of the Eyozosha empire, expanded her influence to neighboring kingdoms and empires and most importantly fully assumed the position of lord of fiefdom Aldcrest by having Jake's brother exiled to another country. The country or the reason for Peter's exile, Jake didn't know.
During these past nine years Jake had only reached the rank of squad leader which should have been impossible by this time. Jake should at least have been a captain or a colonel if he was lucky in the promotion. Instead, he was just a petty squad leader -lowest position after soldier, more evidence that Daisy's influence has grown a lot over the past years. Jake became a squad leader after spending a year in the Humanity Army. After nine years he still hadn't been promoted just meant that someone was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
The army positions in kingdoms, human empires and the Humanity Army were the same starting as a soldier moving up to squad leader, commander, captain, colonel and finally general.
A soldier only obeyed order. A squad leader has some autonomy and a versatile team of about 10 to 20 men which is mainly used in missions that require few men and great versatility as scouts or capturing certain demons or monsters. Their direct superior is the captain, but is below commanders in terms of hierarchy. The Commander commands a platoon of about 50 men. The captain has a company under his command which is usually made up of three platoons, archers, mages and melee. The Colonel leads a battalion that is made of three companies. The general has five battalions at his disposal and only reports to the ruler of the kingdom or empire to which he belongs.
This was the last mission Jake had to do before he could finally get rid of the Humanity Army and start his revenge on Daisy. The mission was to kill the demon lord Zaz'gin. After hundreds of years the Humanity Army finally managed to corner Zaz'gin and regain control of the Deathcanyon. It's needed to know that when a demon lord dies, his subordinates die with him.
Jake was walking through the middle of Deathcanyon to the position where Zaz'gin was thought to be with his squad when a scout ran back.
"Sir bad news an army of skeletons is in front of us. I don't know how many there are, but they have good armor and weapons"
Hearing the scout's report Jake had a bad feeling. Only necromancers could create skeletons. The demon lord Zaz'gin was not a necromancer but a dark mage and the Humanity Army that was in Deathcanyon had none which meant this was an outside team with a necromancer mage who came especially for this mission of get rid of Zaz'gin or they were in real trouble. Jake had no reports of any extra teams, which could only mean one thing, trouble.
"John, how much time do we have until we complete the mission?"
John was the oldest member of Jake's squad; his best friend and the one Jake trusted the most. He had joined the Humanity Army at the same time as Jake and along with Jake he also had the dark life made by Daisy before joining the Humanity Army. Furthermore, he was a fourth-class mage with the earth attribute.
"We have nine hours after that the army cannot guarantee that it can keep Zaz'gin's troops occupied"
"And how far are we from the supposed place where Zaz'gin is?"
"We're about seven kilometers away." replied John.
"Okay, we have time to go around. Come on, it will be tight to get to the place in time"
