What Has She Gotten Herself Into?

The following morning, Maddie helped Ava to get ready for her interview at Mason's office.

When her taxi pulled up in front of the address that was on the card Mason had given her, she paid the driver and got down from the car.

She entered the story-building and took the elevator to the 10th floor, where Mason's office was located. She felt as if she had been teleported into a fashion magazine the moment she stepped out of the elevator. First and foremost, the place was immaculately designed, and everyone there was elegantly dressed in expensive-looking clothes; Ava immediately felt undressed as she stared at her cheap pants and shirt.

"Looking for something?" She heard a female voice say. Ava turned to her right and saw a nicely dressed girl who looked about the same age as her, standing behind the reception desk. Ava walked up to her.

"Hi, I'm here to see Mason," she politely said.

"Are you here for the interview?" The girl asked her.

"Yes," Ava replied.

"Your name please?"

"Ava....." Ava didn't get to say her surname as the receptionist immediately started typing her name on the laptop in front of her, a small from played on her face, and she raised her head to look at Ava. "I can't find your name among those to be interviewed, there is no one with the name, Ava."

"Oh," Ava didn't know she was going to be interviewed alongside other candidates for the role, and why didn't Mason add her name to the list of those to be interviewed? She thought of calling him to come to bail her out, but what was the point? If she was going to be competing with other job seekers then the chances of her getting the job were next to none, the other candidates would definitely have a college degree, something she doesn't have. She should have known this was going to be a waste of her time.

"How did you hear about the interview?" The receptionist asked her.

"Mason told me about it," Ava replied.

The receptionist gave Ava a look that said she didn't believe her. Ava brought out Mason's card from her bag and showed it to the receptionist. "He gave me this, and asked that I come here for the interview."

On seeing Mason's card in her hand, the receptionist seemed to believe her. "There is a door by your right, go in and join the rest candidates there."

Ava thanked the receptionist as she went in the direction that she pointed to her.

"And is that one also part of the people that came to be interviewed?" Nancy asked the receptionist as walked up to her, her long heels clicking against the tiled floor.

"Yes," the receptionist replied.

Nancy chuckled, "dressed like that? What does she think she's coming to do? Compete for the position of Mason's cleaner? How did she even get on the list? Joan, you should mind the people you allow into this place."

The receptionist sighed, "she said Mason invited her for the interview himself."

"What? Mason invited her?" Nancy pointed in the direction that Ava had gone, she had so much disgust on her face.

"So she said," the receptionist replied.

Nancy laughed sarcastically, "if everyone who came for the interview looks like her, then I have nothing to worry about," she sounded so confident.

"Why don't you just join them? Who knows, you might get picked," the receptionist suggested. Almost the whole office knew about Nancy's crush on Mason, but what they didn't know was that they were also sleeping together.

Nancy shook her head, "I don't do that, the men come after me and not the other way around." With that said, Nancy turned around and walked back to her office, arrogantly sashaying her ass.

When Ava opened the door and walked into the room, she felt so out of place as all the ladies in the room were all provocatively dressed with all their boobs pushing out. Their faces were adorned with so much makeup that made most of them look like dolls. Making Ava wonder if this was truly a job interview, or is there something that she doesn't know? She stood at the door wondering if she should turn around and leave, because any slim chance she thought she had of getting this job, just flew out the window. Whatever it is that Mason was looking for in an assistant, she definitely didn't have it.

The intimidating pairs of eyes that were staring at her made it difficult for her to come to a decision, about whether she should leave or not. They all held hatred for her, it was as if she had just entered the den of lions. Ava, you need to run out of this place.

The door opened and a young man walked in, "all right ladies, it's about to begin. Who's going first?" The moment the words left the man's lips, all the ladies got up, clamoring to go first.

What has she gotten herself into?
