Nancy Hates Her

By the time they were all done having lunch, Ava was convinced beyond doubt that Nancy truly hated her. All through the period, they were having lunch, Nancy kept throwing her deadly glares, making snide remarks at her. Ava kept wondering what she could have done wrong within the few hours of being there for Nancy to hate her so much.

"Is it just me, or does it feel like Nancy doesn't like me?" Ava asked Becky after they had gotten back to the office.

Becky smirked, "pay her no heed, she was like that with me when I first came here, but after a while, she slowly warmed up to me when she saw I had no interest in what she wanted. She will do the same with you too, don't worry."

"What is that she wants?" Ava asked so she can make sure to stay away from whatever it is.

"Mason," Becky replied.

"She wants Mason?" Ava asked, shocked.

"Yup, they kinda have a thing," Becky said like it was nothing new.

"They are dating?"

"Nah," Becky shook her head from side to side.

"They are fuck buddies, at least that is what Mason thinks, but Nancy believes they are more than that, and she is nursing the idea that he would one day make her his wife."

Ava looked confused, "but I thought those women who were here earlier, were auditioning to be Mason's wife? Why didn't he just pick her instead if they have something going on?"

"As I said, Mason thinks of her as just a fuck buddy, and besides Mason isn't ready to get married yet, those women were sent by his grandfather to get on his nerves, the old man has been wanting him to get married since forever."

"And you know all these?"

"I'm his assistant. Honey, there are so many things you would find out when you become his assistant. But I must warn you, you should never mention anything you see or hear to anyone, the moment Mason finds out that you told his business to someone is the day you get fired!" Becky said with all seriousness.

"My lips are sealed," Ava made a zip sign on her lips. Whatever Mason decides to do with his life is his business. If he was sleeping with half of the females in the company, she doesn't care, so long she gets paid.

"So long you're not found wanting, you're going to enjoy working here," Becky said to Ava.

********

By the end of the day, Ava was called into Mason's office.

"How do you find it here? Do you think you can work here?" Mason asked Ava after she had sat down.

"It's a cool place, yes I can work here," Ava replied.

He didn't say anything, just kept staring at her, it was as if he had expected her to have said something else.

"I'm glad," Mason finally said, he brought out some documents and placed them on his desk in front of her.

"These are the contracts that you need to sign, take them home with you and go through them, if you have any questions do reach out to me."

Ava noticed how tired he looked, she wanted to ask him if he was okay but decided against it, it was none of her business. She took the documents from him, "Becky said she would be here until next week, am I required to keep coming until she leaves, or...."

"Yes, you need to properly learn the ropes before she leaves," Mason answered, slowly kneading his temple.

There was a soft knock on the door before it opened and a pair of long legs strolled in. The moment Nancy saw Ava sitting in Mason's office, the smile on her face disappeared and it quickly changed into a frown.

"That would be all for now," Mason said to Ava.

As Ava walked out of Mason's office, she wondered if Nancy knew about her deal with Mason? Probably that was why she hated her.
