At the end of her class for the day, Ava got a call from Mason that Jason would be coming to pick her up from school instead of his driver. According to the reason he gave, his driver was unavailable to come to pick her. She considered it strange though because this was the first time it was happening. Mason's driver always came to get her from school, or Mason would come to get her on days that he wasn't too busy at the office.

"Isn't your driver coming to pick you?" Layla asked as they both walked to the school car park, Layla clutching her textbooks to her chest, they were some bulletproof. Ava noticed how she always looked at the floor while walking, rarely looking people in the face.

"No, my brother-in-law would be coming to get me instead," Ava replied as she replied to a message from Maddie who was asking about the type of car that Mason was going to be getting her.
