His Secret

Later that evening as Ava and Mason sat down in the dining having dinner, Mason noticed Ava was picking at her food, rarely eating it.

"What is the problem? Aren't you hungry? Or you don't like the food?" Mason asked her. He barely had any appetite himself, and he was only forcing himself to eat his food because he didn't want Ava to notice he had something bothering him. But she seems to have something on her mind as well.

"Baby are you, all right? Is it about your mother?" Mason reached across the table and held her hand. He started to gently rub it with his palm.

Ava sighed as she pushed her plate of spaghetti away from her. "No, it's not. Though I was supposed to meet with her this afternoon, I didn't because she wasn't taking my calls."

"You were supposed to meet with her?" Mason asked her.

"Yes. But that isn't the issue. I have something that I need to tell you."

Mason leaned back in his seat. "What is it?"
