I had to bite my inner cheeks to suppress a smile. I don't know why, but I ought to be angry that he had to bring up the discussion of how he had taken away from the comfort of my own home. That he had deliberately taken me up as his prisoner. Robbed me of everything from my life, yet somehow, all it made me feel was a swarm of butterflies and other winged creatures flitting around my stomach.
"You chose me over the mark," I say, setting down the amulet on the table.
Callum grasps my hands, thumb zeroing over the back of my palm. The rough texture grazing my skin, tempting me to close my eyes and moan at the sensation skittering through my veins.
"I badly wanted you to be safe first," he replied softly. "I was thinking of coming back to the island alone once I get you to safety if you hadn't taken the amulet."
