Chapter 101: Two Heads

[Vereena]

The amulet that was resting on my chest pulsed with a discernibly greater frequency than it had before. Like it was hinting to us about something and that we should act in haste.

The warmth it was expelling into my body intensified, to the point I could faintly hear it humming. Yet, it goes past unheeded as fear crippled me to the bones. Rendering me immobile in my spot.

Everyone had unsheathed their swords, circling around me, keeping me safe in the inner circle. Despite this, I am certain that they will not have a chance against whatever it is that waits beyond the shroud of fog. If it will kill us all, there will be no stopping it.

The low beastly growls grow louder. The sound of their talons scraping against the ice made the hairs on my arms stand underneath the thick layers of my coat. My heart was pounding in my throat, though I tried to steady my breath and calm the rising panic inside me.
