Patrol job (2)

Vero is sitting in a big vehicle, hugging his gun. The interior of the truck is mostly grey with a lot of guns and the tool as a decoration. Aside from the essentials, there's nothing much in the truck. This is because the patrol job doesn't require many tools.

However, a hunter could see that this truck has a reinforced wall, which is normally hard to obtain for a hunter due to high maintenance costs and hunter rank requirements. The city has invested in this technology for a truck that hosts a bunch of low-ranking hunters to have this kind of protection.

But even with the high-tech reinforced armor plate, it still can't block psychological damage.

"Tch. Another rich kid from the inner walls again. "

"Yeah, this job is turning into a kid's playground. Just don't think too much about it. Natural selection will weed them out in no time. "

"I hope you're right. I don't want to deal with crying babies wielding guns. "

They purposely talked aloud so Vero could hear and cause some ruckus. That way, they would have a valid reason to kick him off the vehicle. Unluckily for them, Vero didn't get bothered by the provocation.

Instead, he focuses on what he has to do in order to earn money. The job requires them to drive around the city border in the middle of the wasteland and shoot down the monster that comes near it.

The truck follows a predetermined path. It has been designed to not let any monster slip past the patrol vehicle. There are more than ten vehicles that circle around the city to maintain this level of security.

The first monster that appears, unsurprisingly, is a wasteland dog.

The most common monster that they can find in the wasteland is a wasteland dog or wasteland dog for short. The receptionist advises him to shoot the monster in the leg first to make the monster easier to kill.

The dog appears in packs and hunts anything that they could eat. They could smell their target from many miles away due to their enhanced noses.

Not long after the dogs appear, a gunshot is fired. Most of them missed the target, but they didn't care as long as it killed the dogs. They'd get the reward. They can afford to waste a bullet because of the cheap bullets that the city provides them. Basically, reducing the cost per magazine to a low price encourages this behavior.

Vero joined in with his CAR rifles. At 900 meters, the bullet doesn't hit any of the dogs at all, but the hunters are still shooting it. When the dog gets closer, the hunters bump up their fire rate to get the most kills.

After a while, the waste dogs were all killed. Vero was caught up in the chaos. He manages to get some kills.

The truck continued on its track around the city. They passed through more wasteland, wiping the dogs out when they saw them. The operation seemed to be uneventful when suddenly a warning siren rang inside the truck.

"Everyone on the stand, we've got a ruin tracker heading our way!"

The truck driver shouts out his information. This panicked everyone in the truck, including Vero. He did not expect to encounter a ruin tracker here. The vehicle speeds up and takes the shortest route back to the city walls.

However, with many people in the truck, its speed is less than the approaching ruin tracker.

"Just drop the kids! We can't get enough speed! "

"Shut up! Maybe we should drop you instead! "

At the moment, there's no way for the truck to make it to the walls, and hunters are not prepared for the ruin tracker, so some people want to drop a kid off to gain more speed. Luckily, some people in the crowd are against this idea.

Even if they have no sympathy for the kid, it'll still leave a bad taste in their mouth and a record of you dropping a kid off the truck. This record would deter any inner-wall people from commissioning them.

The solution now is to delay the ruin tracker down for the rescue team to find them. This is the safest solution that they could think of.

A figure appears in the distance, running toward them at a terrifying speed. Most of the hunters here have never seen anything more than a wasteland dog and low-tier monster, so the sight of a ruin tracker chasing them sends them into a panic.

'Can we really kill that thing?'

Is on everyone's mind the moment they see it. although it didn't stop them from firing their shots. The first shot was fired, and soon all the hunters followed. A rain of bullets flew at it but it doesn't seem to affect the monster.

Vero was in the shooting group trying to delay the ruin tracker. With many bullets flying through, they can't see that Vero is shooting the monster accurately. He focuses his shot on the ruin tracker leg, trying to cause an injury there. His effort doesn't seem to work since the ruin tracker didn't slow down at all.

Their fear grows more and more with every second that passes. Their morals would crumble in the face of certain death. At that moment, is when human-only rely on instinct to survive. The truck's back door slowly opens up, masked by the firing sound.

No one here expects it. In an instant, Vero got thrown out of the truck.

'Sh*t!!!'

He was too focused on firing his shot and didn't notice that someone was trying to chuck him out. With Vero out of the truck, another one followed him out too. It's the guy that stuck up for him earlier.

"F*ck you!! If I survive this, I will kill you! "

The man tried to catch up with the vehicle, but it was moving too fast. So he was left with Vero in the middle of the wasteland with a ruin tracker closing on them.
