Chp.31: Hindsight

The dessert just became the reason for their silence again, as they kept quite throughout the dessert time.

After that Regina and Duncan chatted a little more about the venue for the ball and tried avoiding any unnecessary topic.

And then Regina got up. "Please allow me to take a leave your majesty." Regina said making a bow.

"Hmm? Sure." Duncan said without any second thoughts.

The rain was still heavy and it was clearly darker than usual. But Regina had to reach back to the Eastern palace and sleep. She could never carry out her mission without proper rest.

And that day was particularly hectic.

And then abruptly Duncan said, "Would you mind staying in my room tonight?" He said without having any double thoughts.

Regina on the other hand who had already approached the door to leave turned around swiftly.

"Excuse me, your majesty?" She said with a genuine expression thinking that maybe she was the one who heard it wrong.

"Yeah, if you don't mind you can sleep in my chambers tonight." He said yet again with the same nonchalant tone he said with the first time.

Regina's face suddenly turned red, she was flushed. "Ya, sure your majesty. That will be my pleasure." She said making a bow once again.

"That works well for me." Duncan said as he got up and walked to his work desk.

Regina walked towards the couch and quitely sat down there. "Damn. I shouldn't be blushing on such small things." She reminded of what she was there to do.

She took a glance around the room since she didn't look around properly the first time she came in. Afterall it was just for dinner time, but now she was going to stay here overnight.

"This is like a golden opportunity served on a golden plate." She smirked as she thought to herself.

"If you don't mind, my lady." Duncan said as he was shuffling through the papers in his hands, "You can go ahead and sleep. I'll be sleeping on the sofa in that corner." He said nonchalantly once more.

"Huh?" An instinctive reaction came out of her.

"Hmm?" Duncan looked up equally confused.

"Do you want me to sleep on the bed with you?" He asked with a sly smirk. Regina turned her eyes away and suddenly back to him. Nervously pressing her lips, thinking of something quick to say, "It's not my place to tell you where to sleep, your majesty." She said with a calm expression contrary to her expression just a moment ago.

"Is that so?" He asked raising his right eye brow.

"Hmm?" She nodded a yes confidently. He looked at her for some more time and she also decided not to give up in this kind of situation. It was more like a spontaneous response than her calculative move for the mission.

"Tsk. You are a mood killer." He said leaning back on his chair. "It's fine your majesty. Many say so." Regina said.

This chat ended sooner than they thought as Regina then changed from her gown and went to sleep back in Duncan's chambers.

When she walked out of the changing room in his room she could see that he was working very hard. His eyes set on the papers he held in his hands.

She quitely walked out of the changing room. It was in the wrong side of the room, or atleast she felt so in that moment since now, she had to walk across the room walking pass Duncan's table to get to the bed.

She looked at bed on the other side of that big room and took a deep breath.

She had changed into her night pajamas and she was all ready to take a nap.

"I have to sleep now, so that when he sleeps at night I can check through his room." Regina thought to herself as she quitely walked to the other side.

"Afterall it can also be the case where, Duncan himself can be the most dangerous person for Rachel." She made a reason for her mission and decided her course of action.

Until suddenly her eyes fell on a letter that was lying far behind Duncan's chair. But it was weird that a letter, which seemed to be a very important according to the the looks of it was just lying down there.

"What is that letter doing there?" Regina thought.

"I must put my hands on it. It can be a very important peice of information." Regina thought to herself.

But looking at the conditions around her, it was impossible to take a look at it when Duncan was sitting there.

She sat on the bed. It was soft, fluffy and just like the feeling of how heaven would feel. She could feel her body melt.

"Better I can just sleep now and then take a look at it a night." She thought as her eyelids turned heavy.

"Afterall it is lying in the hindsight, so he won't be able to see it." She explained to herself as she fell asleep looking at Duncan who was working.

She just slept while still in her sitting position.

On the other hand, Duncan waspanicking inside. "Damn. She is sitting there. Why is she looking at me?" He thought. "Why is she looking here? Why is she staring?" He thought as he looked at Regina from side eyes.

He didn't turn his head towards her, and thought she was staring.

"My lady, please go ahead and sleep." He mumbled to himself.

She still sat there in that position.

"Please go ahead and sleep." He said with a polite tone yet again.

But she sat there in the same way.

"Go ahead and sleep..." he said in an anxious way as he turned his head towards Rachel. Only to find out that she had dozed off sitting in her position.

"Oh, you've already taken off." He smirked as he looked at him.

Her golden locks falling on her face and her red blushed cheeks making her look extra cute and adorable. Hr instinctively got up from his chair and walked towards her.

"How can you he so careless?" He mumbled to himself shaking his head as a smiled covered his face.

"How can you be so careless when you are a noble lady. You are unique." He thought to himself as he laid her down and covered her with a blanket.

"You are very beautiful." He mumbled.

After that he got to work as he always did.
