Chp.33: Longing

Looking at him from a closer point of view, she suddenly realised that the man in front of her was a study material for her just a few days ago.

All the more, she was married to him and he was her husband, but she wasn't the one who was the face of the marriage, it was someone completely different.

"Huh? I've never felt such waves of emotions hit me before." She thought to herself as she decided to look back in the letter she had in her hand.

The silence in the room made Regina completely forget that she may also get caught.

She could die for reading something that identified as a confidential document for the king.

She could also get imprisoned and forever given a life of hell. Her being the queen wasn't even a shield for the anger that Duncan might potray.

But she was engrossed in what she was reading. She was lost in the words that were more precisely were never supposed to be seen by anyone.

The pages that she shuffled, made her look into the other side of the man who was sleeping right in fron of her on the desk.

"He was diffrent." A thought came into Regina's mind. "He is different." Another sentence attached to the previous one as she was nearing to the end of the letter.

The last line read - "There is so much more I could love you for, but much more than even that are the things I hate. How am I the bad person?"

Regina read it. The dim lighted room was just so sufficient for her to steal that letter, to overwrite over it and make a copy for herself or just even leave the room with that letter.

She made correct assumptions, the letter was from a long time back. Maybe the year before Duncan was crowned as a king.

Regina looked at the last sentence and pondered over it for sometime. "Hmm?" She thought to herself as her chin rested on her hand and she leaned on the table.

Duncan showed no signs of getting up and the letter she just went through was like a new door that opened for her to know more about Duncan.

She obviously loved this spontaneous opportunity that came her way, but the last sentence made her stop and think.

"So this was a love rejection letter after all...." she thought to herself. "Hmm? It reads - Stanton." Regina looked at the address below the letter and found the exact person whom she guessed must have written it.

"Isabella Stanton. That's fascinating and dull both at the same time." Regina shrugged her shoulders. A wave of emotions took over her heart as she looked at Duncan once more.

"No, no, no... I will definitely inform this to the count." Regina thought to herself contradicting to her thoughts that earlier suggested to her that she shouldn't write about this letter in her daily information to the count.

"I must write about this letter. It will not be appropriate to find something so important and not informing it to the client." Regina got up from the chair she was sitting in, and walked back to the place she found the letter in.

She quitely placed the letter there just like the way she found it. "Just like no one ever saw this. And thus would never pick up." Regina thought to herself.

She then fled to the bed.

Closed her eyes and decided to take a well deserved sleep. But-

"Wait... wait." Suddenly a thought popped in her mind and she opened her eyes. Now she was wide awake for no reason.

"Hmm?" She kept on thinking and vague string of thoughts appeared in her mind. She didn't keep track of even one of the thought. But then suddenly she got up and sat.

"Should I just put a blanket over him?" A very random thought was now disturbing her.

Some more minutes passed as she finally got up and walked towards him. He was fast asleep and peacefully calm and that.

She covered him with a blanket. "I thought that the place where you'll be, will be the perfect place to be at." Regina shrugged her shoulders as a sombre smile appeared on her face.

"Hah, but past is in the past." She thought.

She walked away once more. This time calmly pacing towards the bed. She got in and closed her eyes.

A wave of calmness took over her.

The rain sound in the background and a room she had , and probably will never sleep again made her think that she was on a short trip to what people might call a paradise.

Well, for Regina, Duncan was not just a king. She watched him grow up from the time she was training to be Rachel, to the day she debuted and the day she married him. He looked just so perfect in her memories.

"From the first time I saw you, I saw all the things that I thought only I owned in you. Just like the pain, it was supposed to be mine, but you took a part of it." Regina thought the day she got the letter from Royal Family regarding the announcement of acceptance .

A lot of feelings rushed into her heart at that moment when a letter came to her house. A letter that could be declared as the token of her victory. A letter that she thought could solve so many of her problems.

She was happy at that moment. She was genuinely happy that, after a very long time of only anticipation and plain hopes, she was receiving something that she had wanted all along.

That one letter made her feel safe. That one letter made her feel rewarded. That morning was the one she would never forget.

------

Next morning.

"Aww?" Duncan yawned as he got up.

The morning was grey and there were mild drizzles.

"Damn. I slept very well." He said as he stretched sitting on his chair itself.

"But my neck is sore. Why?" He thought to himself as he noticed that he slept on the chair while working.
