An Owlmierey's True Power + Aftermath

Daniel's temporary room, Everstone manor, June 5th, 8:30 A.M

Daniel was using the phone in his room. He knew Alissa's number since it was in every letter that she sent him.

"Hello?" Alissa answered on the other end in a faux New Orleans accent.

"There's no need to do that, Alissa." Daniel stated. "I'm no threat to you."

"Oh, it's you." She stated in her normal voice. "I thought you might have been somebody else. My landline doesn't have call recognition, and even if it did, I wouldn't have known it was you until you called me."

"Well, there is something we need to discuss, and I'd like to include Alan Detimis in on the conversation. You wouldn't mind joining me at his house?" Daniel asked.

"Is this all about that business that went down seven years ago?" Alissa remarked in a tone that sounded like she had a heavy pain in her heart. Daniel didn't really want to make Alissa hurt, but he wanted to find answers. "I'll try my best to hold up."

Daniel nodded his head. "I understand. It hurts to lose someone you love."

Alissa sobbed a bit. "I'll be okay. I want to know what happened too."

"Very well, I'll see you there." Daniel hung up the phone and headed to his car.

Daniel entered his vehicle and drove back to Alan's house.

Alan Detimis' house, 9:00 A.M

Daniel waited by the front door when a taxi stopped across the street. Daniel's car was in the same spot as the day beforehand. He paid 25c for parking like he did beforehand.

"Hey, Daniel." Alissa stated upon exiting the taxi and paying the driver. "I see you're wearing the outfit I got you for your birthday."

"I thought you'd like to see me in, to make you feel more comfortable." Daniel remarked.

"We haven't seen each other for seven years, and yet you still know me as well as when we parted ways all those years ago." Alissa giggled like she was 17 again.

"Well, you have been sending me letters. So, it's not like I could lose those memories."

Alan opened the door before Daniel or Alissa could knock on it. He looked better, he wasn't dishevelled, his hair was neat and even though he was wearing something casual, it looked new. Alan had even cut his beard to make it shorter and neater. Daniel and Alissa were both shocked at this. Was this really the same man Dan met yesterday.

"Alan?" Daniel asked with a high amount of confusion.

"Yes, Daniel?" Alan replied.

"Is that really you?"

Alan reached a shelf that was near the door and took a photo down and presented it to Daniel. "I believe so."

Daniel examined the seven-year-old photo. It was Alan alright, back when he was chipper and hopeful. Alan had adjusted himself to make him look like he did back then.

"That's amazing." Daniel relayed.

"Oh," Alissa held her hand over her heart. "Was this all for me?"

"Well, yes. I didn't want you to feel bad, so I fixed myself up." Alan relayed and put the photo back where it came from.

"Oh, so you did fall apart." Alissa realised. "I'm so sorry for your lose." she sobbed a bit.

"I guess I should have watched my mouth." Alan admitted downheartedly.

"Let's go inside, there is some things we need to discuss." Daniel remarked and Alan nodded and opened the door up wider. Daniel went in first and sat upon the couch which was now far cleaner now then it was the day before hand, the yellow coffee table was shiny as well, in fact the whole house looked like new.

Alissa sat beside Dan, and Alan sat beside Alissa.

"So, what is this all about anyway?" Alissa asked.

"You both must know the answers I'm looking for; you just don't realise it. There's something that Edgar is unaware of currently, and we're going to use that to our advantage." Daniel stated.

"What is Edgar unaware of?" Alissa asked.

"I can't say anything about it, because of that ability of his." Dan replied.

"you're talking about his truth sight, right? You know that truth sight only works if lies are told, but by keeping what you know a secret, he can't use his truth sight to know what your advantage is against him." Alissa stated in a tone of realisation.

"Correct. Now, I'd like to ask you both about the gun shop you owned, Alan."

"My gun shop?" Alan responded with some confusion. "Why my gun shop?"

"I talked with that assassin I told you about, and he said that you no longer have something you did have seven years ago. I know he wasn't speaking about Michael, so it had to be something else he was talking about." Daniel retorted.

"What if he was talking about my wife?" Alan asked.

Daniel shook his head. "Technically you still have her since she is still alive."

"Now that I think about it," Alissa interjected. "It was because my family and him were discussing deals to purchase the business from him that Michael and I met."

Alan's eyes shined as he realised that she was speaking the truth. "Yeah, I think you are right. That is how you and Michael met!"

"Really?" Daniel noted. "That is interesting."

"So, that's what this whole thing has been about." Alissa interjected. "I should have realised it sooner, but oh, my dear heart was taken and I couldn't see the forest for the trees." Alissa sobbed a bit, and Daniel patted her back to calm her down.

"Did you realise something that I forgot?" Alan asked.

"It's all about the location of the gun shop. It was perfect for the mafia to use it for trafficking drugs." Alissa retorted.

"Really?" Daniel asked.

"Alan, do you still have maps of this area?" Alissa asked.

"Yes. I do." Alan replied, he got up and went off to retrieve them and he returned a minute or two later. He unrolled the map and placed some glasses on top to prevent it from rolling back up.

Alissa pointed at a spot on the map. "There, that was the spot where the gun shop was."

Daniel looked at the spot and noted it was very close to the edge of town and directly above some tunnels that were below Everleason. It was indeed in a perfect spot for drug trafficking. "It all makes sense now!" Daniel announced. "Alissa, you had the answer all along, and all you needed was a little bit of pushing."

"Hey, you're right! Wait a moment!" Alissa then took out a tape recorder. "Explain it to me for prosperity."

"It was all about the store, it was never about you and Michael. Edgar and his friends must have seen that that property was a perfect place to get drugs across the border without notice. They tried to discuss with Alan to buy the business and therefore the right to lease the property. But Alan wasn't going to budge, he was going to give the business to Michael who would probably keep leasing out the building for his own business. They couldn't kill Alan because Michael would inherit the business and then they would have to kill him too, but that would create too much suspicion. So, they went for the next best plan, they killed Michael, believing that the sadness Alan felt would force him to sell. They were right." Daniel deduced.

"But what about Eliza?" Alan asked. "Why would he take her out too, I mean, why did he poison her."

"He was afraid that she would figure out the scheme that he concocted." Daniel continued. "He must have found out that Alissa spoke to her and she would come to the conclusion I just did, because Elizabeth is such a good person, he'd know that she'd expose his drug trafficking business to the police and he would be ruined. His initial plan was to take her out for only two years because he was aware of the statute of limitations for the crime he committed. But once she was in that coma, he didn't bother to do anything to revive her. He saw that his life was far better without her in it."

"That explains everything!" Alan announced excited.

Alissa smiled and pressed stop on the tape recorder. "I got it all Daniel. It's all on tape."

Daniel nodded and then he suddenly looked off into the distance. As if he was deep in thought.

"Is there something wrong Dan." Alan asked.

"Edgar was always a step ahead of everyone. Alissa spoke the truth to Eliza seven years ago." Daniel realised.

"I did, why is that important?" Alissa replied.

"Because his ability of truth sight only works if you lie, so how could he have known that you two spoke about Michael's demise? You two spoke in Eliza's study, right?" Dan asked.

"That's right. So?" Alissa replied.

"Well, as I recall, that room is soundproof and there's no way that Edgar could have hidden a bug in that room without Elizabeth knowing about it. Which can only mean one thing."

"What's that Daniel?"

"Edgar can read lips."

This realisation was earth shattering.

"Wait!" Alan exclaimed. "You mean to say that if he was watching us with that ability of his then he would know that we know all about his plot."

"He must have made millions, probably billions from that business." Daniel stated pulling his cap down over his face. "He could be getting rid of the business. I'm going to make a call. Do you have a power cancelling crystal nearby?"

"Of course, I do. I'll go get it." Alan went to his back garden and retrieved some power cancelling crystals. He returned to the room and Daniel put his hat back on.

"Ah, I see. Owlmeireys can't look in places where a power cancelling crystal is because their ability would be cancelled." Alissa realised.

Daniel touched his nose to indicate that she was right. He picked up the phone and called the EPD front desk.

"Everleason Police Department, front desk, this is Jasmine speaking, how may I assist you today?"

"Hello Jasmine." Daniel stated.

"Hey Dan! How's it going?" Jasmine interrupted.

"It's going well. In fact, I have a brilliant plan to catch a master crook." Daniel proclaimed.

"Sounds like you solved the case."

"I did, but it won't be an easy arrest, so I need the help of Damien Thrifter and Edwin Orange, can I get a conference call with both of them?"

"Sure, hold for a moment."

Daniel waited about three minutes.

"Alright." Jasmine announced. "They're on the phone, I'll just transfer you over."

"Thanks Jasmine."

Jasmine transferred the call.

"Hey Dan!" Damien stated.

"Morning Smith." Edwin relayed.

"Alright, are you in rooms protected by some form of ability prevention?" Dan asked.

"This whole place is under a cloak of ability prevention; nobody can use any ability in this whole police station." Edwin announced.

"Good. Do you both have a pen and paper?" Daniel inquired.

"Yes." Both Edwin and Damien admitted.

"Alright, here's the plan..." Daniel stated and he explained everything. Once he told them the plan, he kindly took Alissa's arm and took her with him. Daniel made sure to speak loud enough when he told Damien and Edwin his brilliant plan that Alissa overheard and understood that she had involvement in the plan. She knew what her purpose was in the plan and exactly what she had to do.

Daniel went to the EPD first and Edwin, who was using his invisibility power, went the vehicle and whistled, Alissa opened the rear car door to exit and announced "I'm going to use the bathroom." For all the world to hear. Daniel rubbed his temples, and Alissa closed the car door.

Alissa returned a few minutes later after 'using the bathroom' and entered the car. They then went to a market that was vailed under a power protection crystal and Daniel purchased a new analogue tape recording device, a similar model to the one that Alissa carried in her bag. The plan was really coming together. Daniel was going to take advantage of all of Edgar's weaknesses to finally arrest him and take him down.

Now that everything was in place, he headed to the address of what used to be Alan's gun shop.

77 Marble Lane, Everleason, 10:12 A.M

As Daniel expected, as he arrived, he saw that nothing remained, the whole place had burned down. Edgar was nearby with his arms outstretched.

Daniel parked his car in a parking spot facing away from the ruins of what used to be a store of some sort. Thankfully the other shops were unaffected by the blaze that destroyed the property Edgar was now leasing.

Daniel and Alissa as well as the invisible Edwin Orange left the car and went up to him.

"Oh, it's such a shame that my place of business ended in flames. I just hope my landlord was insured."

"Cut the crap. We know you can read lips." Daniel exclaimed angrily at Edgar.

Edgar snickered. "Well, just for you son in law, I will cut the crap. Yes, I saw your little conversation. I already made a ton of money from the drugs I smuggled through that building, so I didn't need it anymore. Now you have no proof of anything. Not even your badge or the camera behind your tie can damn me, because I scrambled them."

"Oh, I'm well aware of that trick, which is why Alissa bought her analogue recorder, your devices can't scramble that." Dan stated with a smile.

"Oh, yeah. I almost forgot I saw that." He took out a gun. "Hand over the tape."

Alissa ejected the tape in her tape recorder and tossed it to Edgar. Edgar threw it to the ground and stomped on it and destroyed it. "There, now it's my word against yours." He laughed diabolically.

Suddenly, a gun rang out, but it wasn't the gun Edgar was holding. Edgar felt a pain in the back of his right shoulder and felt it. There was a tranquilizer dart. "Oh, you distracted me so your colleague could shoot me without me noticing. But without a clear recording of what I said, you can't do anything." He collapsed as the tranquilizer dart took hold.

"Oh?" Edwin stated and revealed himself and he was waving around the tape recorder Daniel purchased. "You mean this?"

"But then the tape I destroyed." Edgar stated.

"It was blank. Alissa didn't record your confession." Daniel interrupted. "Edwin did. One of the greatest weaknesses your truth sight is that you can't see people using their powers."

"Because abilities are the truth." Edgar announced before falling fast asleep at last.

Damien took the honours of hoisting him up and placing him under arrest. "Since you were knocked out, your rights will be read upon your awakening. Then we will book you."

Daniel smiled at last. The whole ordeal was finally over. He sighed a sigh of relief; he couldn't believe that his plan worked.

Edgar tried every trick in the book to escape conviction. He confessed to everything and even told everyone the name of the person he hired to take out Micheal. But nobody was going to give him a break. He had done nasty things, nobody was going to let him get away, even a little bit. He was sentenced to life in Everleason prison.

Simon George met with Edwin's wife and helped her heal her pain and she was released a few weeks later. Daniel is still confounded on how he managed to do it.

Heather Detimis returned from Japan and she and her husband worked things out. He told her the truth and she hugged him tightly. Their marriage didn't fall apart and they finally gave their son a proper burial.

Alissa finally moved on with her life and found a new man to love. As for Elizabeth, she became the new head of the mafia and she led them down the path of righteousness. Finally, they were able to be themselves after so many years. They found themselves and were forever grateful.

Daniel's prediction was right. By resolving this case, everyone involved became happier because he solved it.
