Confrontation + Aftermath

Sword Surgery Office, Grayson Hospital, 12 Polias Drive, Scandinavilis, Cascoss, January 15th, 9:25 AM

Dan and Bill entered the office.

Sarah Lint, a woman of 166cm was sitting behind the computer nearby. She had long and wavy blonde hair and silver irises. Her face had makeup on it, and it looked youthful. She was 32 years of age, yet she could pass as 21 or 23 at the oldest.

"Doctor, Lieutenant, what are you doing this far north? Aren't you usually in Everleason in middle Cascoss?" Sarah inquired in her aged tone and she was surprised to see the EPD uniform.

"We are here to meet with Leeroy Sword." Daniel spoke.

"What did he do? Is it a malpractice suit? Usually, it's a lawyer's duty to inform us that we've been served. We haven't been served a malpractice suit, but its general knowledge that lawyers show up to deal with them." Sarah inquired. Shifting her tone to match her words throughout her statement.

"No, we're here for something else." Bill relayed.

"Well, did he commit a crime?" Sarah asked.

"Not that it is any of your business," Bill added. "But his son may be involved in a crime that we are investigating. That's all I can say to public ears."

"Oh, I see." Sarah said in a tone that reflected her knowledge about William investigating crimes that include a criminal that is already known about. "So, who's the criminal that you have already discovered?"

"The victim of the case was discovered to be a criminal in the case we are working on, but that's all I can say." Bill relayed.

"She's got your number." Dan interjected jokingly.

"What are your thoughts on this Daniel?" Sarah asked.

"Interested in mysteries are we, young lady?" Dan asked.

Sarah nodded. "When I pick up a mystery novel, I find it hard to put it down."

"Hey, lady, just get your boss!" Bill yelled in frustration and this frightened Sarah.

"How do you still have a job?" Daniel asked Bill.

"We're just wasting time talking about everything but the case at hand!" Bill exclaimed.

Daniel sighed. "I see why your team doesn't feel great toward you. Anyway, Sarah, would you mind informing Mr Sword that we would like to speak with him, please?"

Sarah nodded whilst holding a scarf that she took from a blue box hidden under her desk, she was still a bit shocked after being yelled at by William. "Of course, I'll inform him immediately." She then folded the scarf and put it back in the box that had a picture of her son, the boy who knitted the scarf for her. She then communicated with Leeroy's pager to inform him of Dan and Bill's visit.

A few moments later a 189cm tall man with magnificent black hair, he hadn't started going grey yet. He was around 51 years of age, and he was wearing everything you'd expect a surgeon to be wearing, he cleaned his glasses. "You have caught me in the middle of a gallbladder removal, this better be important." He spoke curtly.

"Forgive us, but it's about your son." Dan added.

"Follow." Leeroy announced in his dark voice.

Dan and Bill followed Leeroy into his personal office which was soundproof, it had a camera but no microphone. There was an office desk with a basic computer atop it. The chair Leeroy used was dark blue and it looked very comfortable, more comfortable than a huge pile of pure cotton.

The seats opposite the desk were white chairs, plastic and definitely less comfortable than the seat Leeroy's chair.

"Pray forgive the seats, if I knew you guys were coming, I would have brought out the luxurious seats." Leeroy relayed. "So, what has David done this time?"

"We're not going to beat around the bush," Bill relayed. "But we believe that he has some sort of involvement in a murder that we are investigating."

Leeroy sat back and took out a pipe and began smoking it. "Yes, he is a troubled soul. If be it that the law is required to punish him, then I will let the law do what it needs."

"It appears you have no doubts that your boy is guilty." Dan noted. "Why would you think that?"

"If the victim is who I think it is, then I can tell you that he is passionate about proper care and health for our patients. Is the dead person you're looking into Markov Wellenby?" Leeroy questioned.

"You're quite smart, yes, Markov Wellenby is the victim." Dan relayed.

Leeroy took out a polyurethane cigarette from one of the objects displayed in his office and pushed it down on the table in anger, like he was trying to put it out as if it was lit. "That man was awful, presenting us with men and women who didn't have viable organs. We had to pay him out before we tested the organs and we lost a bunch of money to him. I can see why my son wanted revenge in my name. He was just as effected as I was by that miserable old man."

Dan and Bill looked at each other. "It seems that we now know why David wanted to speak with Jeremy and Liam." Bill added.

"We do. Let's head back to the Fisherman's Rest pub and speak with the owner, I bet he also has a part to play." Dan replied.

So Bill and Dan went back to Bill's car and they began the long drive back south to get to 188 Daffodil Avenue.

Dan and Bill entered the bar. There were only two fisherman customers currently in the bar. Other than them, the owner was cleaning tables and West was reorganising the wines and spirits.

Robin Phisher was 199cm tall and he was wearing a rain jacket that had fish on the right side of it, and a glitch effect on the other side. He wore a yellow rain hat and his boots were black with those tell-tale blue specks affixed to the side of them. He wore a white shirt and dark blue pants and he had a ruby red bow-tie with a legit emerald in the centre.

"Good, detectives!" Robin exclaimed jovially in his medium voice. "I want to know..." He spoke as he headed toward the staircase and went past it and opened up a door beside the stairs and inside were a few fisherman jackets as well as pairs of fisherman boots. One of the boots was missing a sliver, Dan and Bill immediately knew that that boot belonged to one of the people who were involved in Markov's demise. "Who did this to my precious shoes?"

"You own all of those?" Daniel inquired.

"That's way too many outfits and suits for one man." Bill added.

"Well, that's because these aren't for my personal use, my ones are upstairs in my apartment, these are all rentals and I rent them out." Robin explained, his tone was slightly angry due to what happened to one of his rentals.

"We already know what happened." Dan relayed. "But due to the fact that it's in relation to a crime, we cannot give to much details."

Robin nodded. "Ah yes, I know what happened, it's to do with Markov's demise."

Bill nodded. "Did you know about the old man's criminal activities?" He asked.

Robin nodded. "Of course I knew, but I didn't say anything as those men and women deserved what was coming to them for trying to rob from an old man, even if he orchestrated it so that he would attract people like that."

"You know, actively keeping your knowledge of an active crime is illegal, right?" Dan asked.

"Well, duh, but the worst that'll happen to me is community service and a big fine. I can afford that. So I don't really give a damn." Robin added.

"Anyway, since those boots are from a rental," Dan added. "That means you know who took them."

"I certainly do. Three of my fisherman outfits and boots were rented by Jeremy Urchin, Liam Doubledaze and David Sword. The number on those boots is the same as the ones Jeremy Urchin rented."

"Bill, get those three to the Aurime county rangers, and if disagree, I can always call James Golden who can give me a contact of a local judge so I can get warrants for their arrests." Dan instructed.

"And Phisher?" Bill asked.

Dan wrote an appearance ticket. "You have two weeks to show up at a court, a judge and jury will determine your punishment. If you ignore the ticket, we will hunt you down and you could face up to double penalty for any crimes you have committed." Dan relayed and handed the ticket to Robin. "Do you understand."

"I'll do it tomorrow." Robin relayed in a truthful tone and Daniel nodded. Bill however did the 'I'm keeping my on you' gesture as they left.

Dan set the destination on Bill's GPS and began the journey to the Aurime County rangers' office. While he was driving Bill contacted the three parties Daniel wanted to speak to on his phone and convinced them to show up without having to force Daniel to go through the arduous task of contacting a Aurime County judge just to get arrest warrants for those three.

The last of the trio, David Sword, arrived at the station, his two friends were already with Bill and Dan in the room mentioned in the scene introduction. Phiane Pierce, a 27 year old female named for the old Rhombodian word for 'mirror' (the old version of phyne, the current Rhombodian word for mirror.) Her hair was long and silver-blonde, her eyes were a faded blue. Her face was beautiful with freckles. Her brow was thin and her lashes were long. She wore light mascara, and the tan uniform associated with the Aurime County rangers. She stood up and led David to Dan and Bill.

"Thank you Phiane." Dan spoke.

"It was a pleasure, Dr Smith." Phiane relayed in her angelic voice and gave a curtsey and returned to her duties.

"Now that we have everyone, it's time to bring this to a conclusion." Dan relayed.

"Bring what to a conclusion?" Jeremy inquired, he was wearing his Hawaiian style T-shirt.

"This chase and mystery." Bill slammed his fists onto the table.

"Chase? Mystery? Your speaking about Markov, right?" Liam stated with a venomous tone. He wore a shirt with sea life on it, a shark was in the centre and was the largest thing on the shirt, he was wearing a blue and silver jogging suit over it and it was zipped open so you could see the shirt I mentioned.

"Young man, I've had enough of your attitude." Bill yelled at Liam.

"Anyway, we have enough evidence to convict you three, so you better confess." Dan added.

"There can't be that much evidence against us." David relayed with confidence. He was in his doctor's coat and with a blue scrubs shirt. His stethoscope around his neck and he was wearing a different pair of glasses.

"You made a terrible mistake David, I'm sure it was you who took the killing shot." Dan added.

The room fell silent for a few moments.

"I don't know what you're talking about." David replied, his confidence was shaken a bit.

"You wanted him to feel pain, so you shot him where you knew it would be fatal, but not instant." Dan relayed. "Little did you know Markov used that to his advantage. He used his blade that he was about to attack Jeremy with to cut a piece of the fisherman boots that Jeremy rented. We have confirmation from Robin, and if you don't take his word for it, I'm sure we can review the footage of the establishment to confirm it."

David sighed. "You two, stay quiet, I'll take it from here." He relayed to his co-conspirators. "Yes, when they told me about what that man was doing and that he took the life of Elliot just because he knew too much, I knew what had to be done. He had to die and feel the pain that he had caused me, my father and all the other hospital staff that he ripped off by using that stupid law to his advantage. I convinced these two that I would only be knocking him out, by the time they realised my true intentions, it was already too late, they now have to shoulder the blame like me." David explained.

"But you guys were able to investigate the place for your self, why not take pictures and tell FORMAL about the truth?" Dan asked.

"And what? Have him sent to prison for the rest of his life? FORMAL is too soft, that man deserved something more than death, but it would take too long to punish him so severely that he would wish for death, so I just cut to the punchline. I did what FORMAL would never do, I took a life to protect other lives. So what if they were thieves, they didn't asked to be disembowelled post-mortem and have those organs placed in others. Markov Wellenby got exactly what he bargained for." David admitted.

Aftermath

West and Robin both faced charges for keeping the secrets they knew, West was let off the hook with a slap on the wrist as the jury believed that West wasn't lying when he said that his two friends wouldn't hurt a soul, and David's testimony proved that. Robin however was given 4 weeks of community service as well as a fine of $400,000 RHD.

David Sword was charged with masterminding the plan and was given life in the Aurime County prison with no parole, and his accomplices were only given 25 years each since they had no idea that Markov was going to end up dead, but they still had to face the music for keeping the truth hidden from the police after the fact.

As for the town of Rysim? It was found that nobody cared for the rules that FORMAL had set, so all of the irresponsible people who didn't do anything about bullying or even encouraged it as well as the bullies themselves were all charged a heavy fine of $150,000 RHD, and the worst offenders were sentenced to 18 months in the Aurime County prison. Rysim's town officials changed their attitude, now knowing the price of ignorance and the bullying rates and depression rates dropped and the education rates increased.

As for the rule about organ donors? It was eliminated. The families still get paid out for the funerals for said donors, but only if none of the members of the family killed the donor just for the money.

THE END!
