Chapter Sixty Three — A Strange Coincidence

I paced back and forth, waiting for the doctors to come out and give me news on her condition. I was feeling utterly confused and guilty because I knew that whatever happened to her was my fault and that if I had paid attention to her, it wouldn't have had to come to this.

I'd already spent about an hour waiting for the doctors and there was still no news of how she was doing. Could she be dead? Was I going to lose her just like that?

I thought to myself, unable to even imagine what I would do if it turned out that Marlene was going to end up dying because of me.

After what felt like forever, the doctor finally came out and I immediately rushed to him.

"How's she doing, doctor?" I asked, hoping with everything that the situation had been resolved and that she was safe and sound now.
