Chapter 13: The Alpha's Wounds

“The carriage ride was risky enough,” the doctor admonished Declan as he replaced the torn stitches. “But you promised complete bed rest until your stitches were removed. You’re lucky I decided to come out this way and check on you today.”

Desiree felt guilty as she sat by Declan’s side through the procedure. She hadn’t known about the bed rest, but she should have known better than to allow him to pick her up and carry her across the room. He told the doctor he lifted a case without thinking about his side.

When the doctor finished covering Declan’s middle with bandages, he took his temperature and looked slightly satisfied.

“Take your pills for three more days. Bed rest for at least another week and absolutely no more heavy lifting.”

“It wasn’t heavy,” Declan insisted.

The doctor rolled his eyes. “You can take a gentle walk three times a day for up to thirty minutes. I’ll return at the end of the week to check your wound.”

“Thank you, doctor,” Declan said contritely.
