They backtracked into the cave. Desiree watched as Declan began to pace back and forth.
“Some of those in his ranks are from Blackstone,” he commented.
Desiree looked to James and the others who seemed to take in serious implications of what that meant.
“We might not have any shifters on our side when Malcolm finds us again,” Declan explained.
“Even if we did,” James put in. “We’d for sure be on the losing side.”
Declan nodded his grim agreement.
“What can we do?” Desiree asked,
“Not we,” Declan responded. “Me. It’s what I can do as the Blackstone alpha.”

As the sun descended towards the horizon, Desiree followed Declan around the temple back to the festival crowd. He made out his beta and the others dressed and ready to join the crowd of wedding spectators. Malcolm greeted them holding clothes for them to wear so they could fit in as well.
She slipped on a simple dress of sky blue silk. Declan pulled on trousers and a loose-fitting shirt.
