Without a moment’s hesitation, Boudicca and Cato set off sprinting southward. Cato wanted to shout for joy. It felt good to run free through the forest. Even he was surprised by how much he enjoyed it.
Boudicca ran next to him, keeping pace nicely. They leapt over gnarled tree roots rising out of the ground and cleared large fallen trees. Cato felt the wind swish passed him as he picked up speed.
“We must maintain a good pace!” Boudicca shouted over the howling wind.
Cato could care less. The world seemed to open up for him as paths became more and more obvious. He could see where a deer had passed through, its scent still hung fresh in the air. The desire to chase it down swelled within him. His heart slammed against his ribs; he could feel it pulsing throughout his entire body.
“Cato!” Boudicca hissed, clamping a hand on his shoulder, and pulling him to a halt. Her smoldering green eyes drew him in intensely. “Focus.”
