I lean back in my chair with a heavy sigh, dragging my fingers over the bags under my eyes. After that conversation with dear ol’ dad-to-be, I found myself parking in the Ocean Tech VIP lot with a fresh bottle of brandy and a deli sandwich.
I spin around to face the bay, sipping on the last of the liquor as the sun rises into the sky. Who knew Ocean Tech could be so quiet and peaceful? Normally it was nothing but the slamming of doors and the chime of the elevator. Constant discussions. Endless paperwork. Was this supposed to be my life from now on? The last swig of the brandy flows down my throat. I need more but no one’s here to get it for me. And I’m way too tired to go downstairs. The sun sure does look beautiful over the ocean. Does it always look like this? Orange with dark clouds lurking in the distance.
My vision blurs as hot tears begin to fall down my face. I smile and cover my eyes with my palm. Geez. How drunk do I have to be to cry over a sunrise?
