Chapter 29: Dares and Desires

I stumble out into the parking lot, the rain a steady drizzle as it soaks my neck and shoulders. Zelia did make a mention earlier that Juan was convinced that this was going to let up for the picnic. But as the warm rain washes over my drunken body, I can’t help but stand and relish in the chance it won’t. Maybe I’ll even get a chance to talk Juan off of the ledge of marriage and buy myself some time. At least enough to properly straighten things out with Allie.

The mere thought of her sends a shot of electricity through me and I jump at the sound of a car horn. Zelia’s pink convertible sits double-parked beside me. I walk over and lean on the passenger window, her lips pursed in concern. “Saz, you’re drunk.”

“And exhausted,” I add with a laugh. “Care to join me in the rain?”

“Absolutely not, I just got my lashes done.” She puts both hands on the steering wheel and looks forward. “Now hop in so we can get you out of those clothes.”
