Chapter 30: A Drive Down Destiny Lane

“I thought I told you not to make us wait.”

Zelia sits beside me in the passenger seat as she hangs up the phone and throws it back in her purse. We’ve only been in front of Allie’s for a full sixty seconds and Zelia is already huffing away.

“I told her yesterday to be on time. Didn’t I tell her?” she mumbles.

“Yes, yes you did,” I sigh.

Allie finally emerges wearing a dress covered in sunflowers, her black hair pinned back into a ponytail as she slides into the back seat.

“Finally,” Zelia groans. “I thought I was going to age a decade waiting for you to walk down here.”

“Well, the heels you gave me aren’t exactly made for running,” Allie laughs as she clicks her seatbelt in place. Her eyes are dusted with makeup and my heart skips a beat as she meets my gaze in the rearview mirror.

“Alright Saz, let’s get a move on,” Zelia snaps. “I want to get to the bar before Aunt Helen gets there. You know how horrible she can be.”
