Chapter 43: Not a Date But Kind of Is

I step out of the gift shop, tossing the tag of my new tropical shirt in a nearby trash can. Not my style at all, but still better than walking around without anything over my chest. The lobby is a bit crowded with families and couples decked out in red, white, and blue. If we had never come here this weekend, I would have forgotten about the holiday completely.

No sooner do I find a secluded spot to lean on the wall do I spot Allie, walking into the lobby. Her thighs are barely contained by her shorts and I immediately look up at her face, trying to play it cool. "Ready to go?"

"As I'll ever be." She waves her phone in the air. "Got the GPS ready and everything."

I shake my head in disapproval. "No maps. Wandering is half the fun. Let's get lost in this city together."

"You come up with the strangest rules." She shoves her phone into her back pocket and tries to encompass my hand in her small one, urging me forward. "Come on. Adventure awaits."
