Chapter 17: On the Run

Emilia crawled her way out of the dirt when the sun had set. She woke up the moment it was safe, the weight of the dirt pressing down on her.

She hadn’t slept underground in a long time. Six feet underground where she was completely safe from penetrating sun rays.

Her dress was smudged with dirt. Emilia sniffed. She patted her dress down but the stains wouldn’t go away. With an irritated growl, she brushed the dirt off her arms. It left a few smears on her ivory skin – it was useless.

Emilia found Tommy and Dulcinea sitting on the beach together with a bottle of wine. Emilia licked her lips.

Dulcinea would have a few glasses in her by now.

“Emilia, you’re awake,” Dulcinea said jumping up.

The sky was completely clear, the moon and stars reflecting off the ocean water. The waves were lapping gently at the sand.

It was a night like so many others.

“Amun will catch up to us soon,” Emilia said. “I need to feed.”
